Villa Savioli Room & Breakfast Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of B&Bs across Italy, and Villa Savioli is the kind of place that makes you actually want to wake up early for breakfast. It’s tucked away on Via Savioli – honestly, I walked past it twice before spotting the entrance because it sits so quietly in this residential neighborhood about 15 minutes from Bologna’s centro storico. The building itself has that understated elegance you find in proper Italian homes, not the flashy tourist-trap vibe you get closer to Piazza Maggiore.

What really got me was how the owners (I think they’re a local family) have managed to keep everything feeling authentic while still nailing the details that matter. The rooms are spacious – I mean, genuinely spacious, not “European spacious” – and mine had these gorgeous original hardwood floors that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in a real house, not some sterile hotel chain. The bathroom was surprisingly modern though, which honestly was a relief after some of the medieval plumbing I’ve encountered in Bologna’s old town. You know what’s smart? They’ve got proper blackout curtains, because the morning light in that part of the city can be pretty intense, especially if you’re trying to sleep off jet lag.

The breakfast situation is where Villa Savioli really shines. It’s not just continental – they do fresh pastries from a local bakery (I think it’s the one on Via San Vitale, but don’t quote me), proper espresso, and they’ll actually make you eggs if you ask nicely. I loved sitting in their little breakfast room, watching the neighborhood wake up through the windows. The area’s pretty quiet – mostly locals heading to work or walking their dogs – so you’re not dealing with tour groups clattering around at 7 AM. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Bologna will tell you is basically a miracle. There’s street parking right outside, and while it’s not guaranteed, I never had trouble finding a spot within a block or two.

The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but everything just… works. The WiFi was solid, the bed was comfortable (firm, the way Italian hotels do it), and when I had a question about getting to the train station, the staff gave me actual useful directions instead of just pointing vaguely toward the center. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned to explore without being in the thick of tourist chaos. The university area is a quick walk, and you can easily reach the main sights on foot or grab the bus that runs right down Via San Vitale. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s got that sweet spot of feeling local while still being professional enough that you’re not worrying about whether the hot water will work.

Reviews of Villa Savioli Room & Breakfast

  • Fantastic stay! – Karin from Netherlands – 13 July 2025 (10/10)

The hosts were incredibly friendly, helpfull, caring, social and always available to answer any questions, gave information or help finding things. It was just lovely. The room was fantastic as well as the beds and the airconditioning! We could stream via the tv if we wanted at night so that was relaxing. Breakfast was very nice and everything was nice and clean! Ricardo and Angela did a great job making us feel very welcome! We had a awesome time! Loved Dom’s (the dog) Hugh and kisses as well!

What could be improved: The bathroom was also very nice, clean and a great shower. But it was to hot in there for me. There was no airflow but other than that it was really good!

  • Friendly stay – Sinan from Turkey – 27 June 2025 (10/10)

The comfort of the beds, the nice and gentle attitude people at the place. They were amazing and helpfull thank you

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Exceptional – Jørgen from Denmark – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

Very beautiful place close to the center of Bologna. Easy to walk there. You can park your car in a locked area next to the house. The hosts are very friendly. And sometimes, if you are lucky, you see their cute dog.

  • Exceptional – Vanessa from United Kingdom – 24 June 2025 (10/10)

I really appreciate how accommodating the staff were with me and my partner. We were busy but the staff helped us very patiently since we arrived.
The room is very comfortable and in a nice quiet location. The breakfast area was most enjoyable! And the coffee was delicious.

What could be improved: That it was a very short stay

  • A very nice spot to spend a few days in Bologna. – Robin from Canada – 11 June 2025 (10/10)

Very clean and well appointed apartment. Breakfast was excellent.

What could be improved: Nothing. It is a 20 minute walk to the Centre but we certainly didn’t mind that.

  • Thanks for the stay – Rafael from Belgium – 9 June 2025 (10/10)

    The property

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Very comfy bed in a lovely, quiet location. – Matthew from Australia – 22 May 2025 (8/10)

Lovely rooms in a quieter part of Bologna. Great breakfast and a comfy bed.

What could be improved: It was quite expensive considering it wasn’t in the heart of town. Check in was a bit chaotic and not having an iron in the room was a bit annoying.

  • Superb – Maria from Cyprus – 20 May 2025 (9/10)

Comftable clean spacious room and bathroom….nice basic breakfast…..secure at night

What could be improved: Didnt understand the bathroom setup….even though we had our own bathroom it was like a bathroom with a glass ceiling,
in another bathroom….we could hear others so i assume they could hear us ?!…Was 30 min walk to piazza maggiore…..just for your info taxis are not allowed there from saturday 8pm til sunday 10pm so was a long walk home after dinner

  • A very pleasant stay in Bologna – Stefan from Romania – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

The room was very clean, had a kettle with some instant coffee for the morning. The breakfast was good and had some croissants, ham and the basics for a nice snack.

Check in was easy, had a parking spot reserved in the yard. Riccardo, the host was really helpful and he was very kind to prepare us some breakfast snacks for the days we had an early get going, which we really appreciated.

  • Fab place to stay – Tiffany from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (8/10)

The room is very pretty and clean. the attached bathroom had a decent sized shower and was well lit. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast was great with a lot of variety to suit everyone. Staff/owners were very friendly. location is only a 20 mini walk into the centre with lots of café and general shops so you do not need to always go to the centre. Off street private parking is a bonus as it is a clean air zone in the centre so best to not drive in.

What could be improved: We had a room that was right at the front of the house and we could hear traffic loudly but the traffic was not all the time. We could also hear people coming in late. I would suggest earplugs if a light sleeper as everything else was great.
