Ariosti Apartment Overview
You know what struck me first about Ariosti Apartment? The address itself – Vicolo degli Ariosti – sounds like something from a Renaissance poem, and honestly, walking down that narrow cobblestone vicolo feels just as romantic. I mean, you’re literally staying on a street named after the place, which feels wonderfully circular in that uniquely Italian way.
The thing about this spot is that it sits right in Bologna’s centro storico, but not in the touristy, constantly-buzzing part that keeps you up at night. It’s tucked into one of those quiet side streets where actual Bolognesi live, you know? You’ll hear church bells from San Petronio in the distance and maybe some animated dinner conversations floating from nearby windows, but it’s the kind of ambient city noise that actually helps you sleep. The building itself has that weathered brick charm – I’m talking about the real deal, not some renovation trying to look old. The entrance is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, which somehow makes finding it feel like discovering a secret.
What really gets me is how the owners have managed to keep the apartment feeling authentically Bolognese while making it actually comfortable for travelers. The ceilings are high enough that you don’t feel cramped (crucial in these old buildings), and there’s this perfect balance of modern amenities without losing the character. The kitchen is properly equipped too – not just a mini-fridge and hot plate situation – which matters if you want to grab fresh pasta from Mercato di Mezzo and actually cook it properly. And speaking of the market, it’s maybe a seven-minute walk away, along with that whole network of medieval streets around the Due Torri.
Here’s something nobody mentions but should: the neighborhood is brilliant for morning coffee runs. There’s this local bar – not the tourist-trap kind, but where construction workers grab their cornetti before work – literally around the corner. The barista there makes the kind of espresso that ruins you for coffee anywhere else. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to basically everything (the university quarter, Piazza Maggiore, those covered porticoes everyone talks about), but far enough from Via del Pratello that you won’t deal with the late-night party crowds.
The apartment itself feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in typical tourist accommodation. Everything works properly – and I mean everything, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings. The 9.5 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but it nails exactly what you want from a Bologna stay. You get that lived-in Italian atmosphere without sacrificing comfort, and you’re positioned perfectly to explore the city like someone who actually lives there rather than just passing through. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself planning your next Bologna trip before you’ve even left.

Reviews of Ariosti Apartment
Great location, but nicely tucked away. – Ian from United Kingdom – 20 April 2025 (9/10)
Great location, but nicely tucked away.
Lovely stay – Amber from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (10/10)
It was a lovely apartment in a great location, very quiet and clean.
What could be improved: N/aSuperb – Ruth from United Kingdom – 14 February 2025 (9/10)
Great location, well equipped for everything we needed for a 3 night stay
What could be improved: It was quite cold in the apartment of an evening and despite reading the instructions to operate the heating we did not manage to turn it on when it was cold so had to leave it with the timed function.
Also not a major factor but toiletries were limited (toilet roll and shower gel) which we were able to buy in the supermarket across the road. Just hadn't taken any with us as it listed them as included.Comfortable stay – Ai from Malaysia – 17 November 2024 (8/10)
Central location and modern with elevators. Great staff response.
What could be improved: We stayed for 2 nights but was given only 3 satchets of shower gel. The toilet flushed very slowly.Comfortable, with all mod cons. and ideally located. With a chance to live with and experience Italian “clean lines” sty – Maria from United Kingdom – 29 August 2024 (10/10)
The apartment had everything needed for a longer stay in Bologna. We were only there for 3 nights. The position was superb, close to all the main sites. We also wanted to check in a little earlier, which was agreed and was most helpful. Very good WiFi and plenty of sockets for equipment.
What could be improved: It wasn’t something we disliked, but as information for future guests. Everything is done via your smartphone, from a video call to check that you were who you said you were to instructions for finding keys, entering the property and using the facilities. All very well done in our case, in English, with photos as necessary. All clear and no problem…… though I guess it could be if your battery is flat!!! . Or you are very unconfident with Tec.
As it is in a city block, don’t expect a view other than the block opposite. Which was close enough to see inside. Having to use external shutters to ensure privacy made it a little difficult to have some daylight in the property as well as privacy.Comfy, clean and cool – Manolya from Turkey – 26 August 2024 (10/10)
The flat was so clean, you have everything you needed, you can go anywhere by walk from the apartment.. that was our second stay, definetely won’t be the last..
Exceptional – Robert from Australia – 11 June 2024 (10/10)
