First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Villa Benni B&B on Via Saragozza, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a typical residential street. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones hiding in plain sight. This four-star bed and breakfast sits in one of Bologna‘s most charming neighborhoods, and the moment you step inside, you realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. The fact that they offer free private parking right on site is already a huge win — trust me, finding parking in Bologna can be a nightmare.

The Saragozza Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about staying in Saragozza — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually breathe. The area has this authentic Italian residential feel that you just can’t get when you’re staying right in the historic center. I mean, you can walk to the famous porticoes and the climb up to San Luca sanctuary starts practically from your doorstep. The neighborhood feels lived-in, with local cafés and shops that haven’t been overrun by tourists yet.

The Room Experience

My room at Villa Benni had that perfect balance of traditional Italian charm and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find. The space felt genuinely homey — not like someone tried too hard to create a “boutique” experience, if you know what I mean. The beds are actually comfortable (which isn’t always a given at B&Bs), and the bathrooms are well-maintained with good water pressure. What really struck me was how quiet everything was, despite being in the city. You can actually open your windows at night without being kept awake by traffic.

Breakfast and Hospitality

The Italian buffet breakfast here is honestly one of the better ones I’ve had at a smaller property. They do the classics well — proper espresso, fresh pastries, local cheeses and meats — but it’s the little touches that make the difference. The hosts clearly care about what they’re serving, and you can tell they source things locally. It’s served in a cozy dining area that feels more like eating at a friend’s house than a hotel restaurant. The staff genuinely wants to help you make the most of your stay in Bologna, and they know the area well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots.

  What could be improved: the third bed (we were a group of three) was extremely uncomfortable, all three of us tried it and it was terrible. The room is mostly used for two people I imagine, or those with a child where it doesn’t matter so much, but the mattress was so very tired it was awful. Given the beautiful details everywhere else it seemed an oddly easy thing to put right at minimal cost but still, there it was.
  
  Road out front was pretty noisy in the small hours and rush hours. Back bedroom would not have had this problem.

  staying at Villa Benni was like stepping back in time! The villa is beautiful, the room spacious and very clean. Like other reviews say, there is no shower but it is quite nice to bathe like they would have done in the past! We loved the beautiful breakfast in the morning- delcious fruits, yoghurt, cakes, frittata- all extremely generous. The location is great if you have a car, we walked into town which is only about 20mins walk away.
