UR-NEST Piazza Maggiore Overview

You know what struck me first about UR-NEST Piazza Maggiore? It’s actually on Via Rizzoli, not technically on the piazza itself, but honestly that’s kind of perfect. You get all the energy of being in the absolute heart of Bologna without the tourist chaos right outside your window. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore – I timed it because I’m weird like that – but the street itself has this nice mix of locals grabbing their morning coffee and visitors figuring out which way to the basilica.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a traditional Bolognese building and gave it a really thoughtful modern update. The lobby has this warm, lived-in vibe that doesn’t scream “chain hotel,” and the staff actually seems to know the neighborhood. When I asked about where to find the best tortellini (because, Bologna), the guy at the desk didn’t just hand me a tourist map – he drew me a little route to this place his nonna apparently approves of. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star: clean, comfortable, decent size for European standards. Nothing groundbreaking, but the beds are actually good and the bathrooms work properly, which honestly is sometimes all you need after a day of wandering around eating your weight in mortadella.

Here’s the thing about staying right on Via Rizzoli – you’re in the middle of everything without realizing how touristy it could feel. Early morning, you’ll hear the metal shutters of shops opening and the first espresso machines firing up. It’s not quiet, but it’s not obnoxious either. The location means you can stumble back from dinner without navigating Bologna’s maze of porticoes in the dark (trust me, even with GPS it’s confusing). Plus, you’re close enough to the university area that you get some of that student energy mixed in with the tourist vibe. The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it promises well. If you want to be in the thick of things in Bologna without paying luxury prices or dealing with hostel drama, this place makes sense. Just don’t expect a rooftop pool or anything fancy – this is more about location and solid execution than bells and whistles.

Reviews of UR-NEST Piazza Maggiore

  • Good – Valentina from Italy – 12 June 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: AC didn’t work and nobody informed us on time to change the booking

  • Passable – Adam from Hungary – 11 May 2025 (5/10)

It should be mentioned that the apartment is in a great location, close to Piazza Maggiore and the Neptune Fountain. Despite being in the city center, the apartment is quiet. It’s a modern, newly built unit with a comfortable bed. However, on two out of four days, there was NO HOT WATER—only lukewarm. The bathroom was MOLDY, which is unacceptable and disgusting.
They provide a separate guide for check-out, and we took out the trash every day ourselves, since we were responsible for cleaning it and didn’t want any deductions from the €300 DEPOSIT!!. The apartment isn’t cheap, so perhaps full cleaning service could be included. .

What could be improved: We arrived in Bologna at 8 AM, and during our earlier correspondence at the time of booking, the host confirmed that we could check in at 9 AM without any extra charge. However, shortly before our arrival, we were notified that the apartment would only be available from 3 PM. Our booking was from Wednesday to Sunday, yet on Friday we received a message with instructions for check-out. Then on Saturday at 10 AM, we got another message stating that we had to leave the apartment that very day. We called them at that point, as we basically was informed that we need to leave the flat earlier… and they said it was a mistake and an automatic message.

  • Disappointing – Christos from Greece – 12 September 2024 (4/10)

    The location

What could be improved: There was dust and dishes and glasses not so clean.
The quality of the appliances for breakfast was very cheap. The kitchen extremely small. It was impossible to prepare even breakfast.

  • wonderful! – Karen from United Kingdom – 10 July 2024 (10/10)

    Location, comfortable quiet and clean

What could be improved: key collection after hours, although understandable was quite high cost

  • Meget tilfreds. God kommunikation med udlejer – Karsten from Denmark – 30 April 2024 (8/10)

Beliggenheden lige midt i centrum og størrelsen på lejligheden. Ligesom på billederne. God sikkerhed med dørlås og portlås. Pæn opgang. Rolig bygning.

What could be improved: Ingen udsigt fra vinduerne, grim baggård.
    Boede på 2. Sal

  • Superb – Peter from Belgium – 29 April 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location in the city centre. Very much appreciated the support from Beatrice who quickly responded to all questions.

  • Superb – Χαρικλεια from Greece – 22 April 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: The price could be better. The apartment and the location was excellent.

  • Overall excellent – we will be returning to stay there again in the future. – Mark from United Kingdom – 7 January 2024 (8/10)

Location, location, location! The apartment is in the centre of the city – down in the lift and out into the street and you are in the central squares – ideal for exploring what is a fascinating city with a rich and varied cultural heritage – everything that you might need is to hand. The accommodation was comfortable and exactly what we needed. The support that we received from our hosts deserves special mention, both Luis and Simone responded virtually instantly when we needed some minor issues resolved and were amazing.

What could be improved: Really only a word of caution concerning the kitchen – it's tiny and not really suited for other than breakfast and snacks. Because of dietary restrictions we normally cook for ourselves when we travel and while we managed (we are used to camper vans) it would have been easier if there had been more counter space. We suggest that within the limits of the space available (we are architects) some more thought might be given to the arrangements – an upgrade of some of the appliances would make things more efficient.

  • Superb – Celina from Argentina – 29 September 2022 (9/10)

Highly recommended apartment in the historic center of Bologna. The space is very comfortable, clean and they have everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. The people who give you support are always willing and are very quick problem solvers. We will definitely be back on our next trips!

  • Very good – Maria from Australia – 22 July 2022 (8/10)

Our welcoming host and excellent location

What could be improved: The towels need to be renewed as they were too worn out. A mattress protector is needed to make the bed more comfortable.
