You know what struck me first about Casa Lodovica? It’s tucked away on Via Giuseppe Massarenti in this quietly residential part of Bologna that most tourists never see – and honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. I mean, you’re still only about fifteen minutes from the city center, but you wake up to actual neighborhood sounds instead of tour groups shuffling past your window at 7 AM. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Bologna – not flashy, just solid and thoughtful. When I walked in, the lobby had this warm, lived-in feeling with natural light streaming through these gorgeous tall windows, and the staff actually remembered my name by the second day (which, let’s be real, doesn’t happen at most places).

The rooms are what really won me over though. They’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between modern comfort and Italian character – you’ve got excellent Wi-Fi and a proper shower with actual water pressure, but the floors are these beautiful old tiles and there’s crown molding that probably dates back decades. My room faced the street, and I was worried about noise, but Via Massarenti is surprisingly quiet for Bologna. You hear the occasional Vespa puttering by and maybe some animated Italian conversation from the café down the block, but it’s more charming than disruptive. The bed was actually comfortable too – I know that sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how many European hotels still think a firm mattress means a brick with sheets on it.

What really sets Casa Lodovica apart is how it feels like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated home rather than a hotel. The breakfast spread includes local pastries from a bakery nearby (I watched them bring the delivery in one morning), and the coffee is proper Italian espresso, not some watered-down tourist version. The concierge – well, I guess you’d call him that, though he’s more like a knowledgeable neighbor – pointed me toward this incredible osteria about three blocks away that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area, but they’ve got arrangements with a garage nearby, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you’ll probably want to walk everywhere anyway. The 9.3 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but everything they do, they do really well. If you’re the type of traveler who wants to feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it, this place gets it right.

  The apartment is actually great, the place was clean and well equipped.
  The location is decent, you get into the centre in 30ish minutes.
  
  What could be improved: Big issue:
  The host said their booking system is not working, so I need to send pictures of my personal documents and refused to host us if I didn't. GDPR much? This all happened exactly 24 hours before our stay, literally forcing me to share a picture of my passport with no guarantee it will only be used for the giver purposes.
  Couple of hours post stay, I get a WhatsApp message with pictures of 2 bidets in 2 separate bathrooms that we have allegedly broken when we haven't even used them.
  Smaller details:
  Shower head is broken, warm water is barely enough for 2 people to shower, nevermind the appartment capacity of 5.

  La casa è molto organizzata, noi in sei siamo stati molto.comodi, anche grazie ai due bagni, nuovissimi e funzionali. La cucina ha tutto il necessario per cucinare e mangiare in casa.
  Con una passeggiata di 20 minuti si arriva in centro e il posto auto è davvero comodo.
  Hosting disponibile e preciso.

  Beautiful and stylish apartment. Excellent atmosphere and cleanliness. Equipped with everything you need for a few days staying. 20 minutes from the city center. There are shops and restaurants nearby. The host is very kind and answers all questions immediately. We would stay there again.

  De inrichting en fasciliteiten zoals 2 badkamers en goed uitgeruste keuken.
  
  What could be improved: De communicatie met de verhuurder kan beter. Wij vroegen om een garage adres omdat onze auto kuren vertoonde . Daar hebben we 2 x om moeten vragen en het beloofde telefoontje van de kant van de verhuurder richting de garage is niet gebeurd.
