Un Gioiello sotto le Due Torri Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Bologna, and Un Gioiello sotto le Due Torri actually lives up to its name – which translates to “A Jewel under the Two Towers,” in case you’re wondering. The location on Via dal Luzzo is honestly perfect if you know Bologna at all. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away on this quiet side street that most tourists never discover. I mean, you can see the famous towers from some of the upper floor windows, which is pretty cool, but what I really loved was being able to duck into Osteria del Sole (this legendary spot where you bring your own food but they serve incredible wine) basically whenever I wanted.

The hotel itself feels like someone’s elegant grandmother decided to open her palazzo to guests – and I mean that in the best possible way. The rooms have these beautiful old tile floors that are surprisingly warm underfoot, and the furniture is that perfect mix of antique and actually comfortable. You know what really impressed me though? The soundproofing. Bologna can get pretty lively at night, especially around the university area, but I slept like a baby even with the windows open. The staff seems to actually live in the city, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the usual tourist traps – sent me to this incredible tortellini place on Via Drapperie that I never would have found otherwise.

Honestly, the 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be some flashy modern hotel with a rooftop pool or whatever – it’s just genuinely good at being what it is. The breakfast spread includes proper local stuff like mortadella and Parmigiano-Reggiano that actually tastes like something, plus they make decent coffee, which… well, this is Italy, so that should be a given, but you’d be surprised. The only tiny downside is that parking can be a bit of a puzzle – Bologna’s historic center is all ZTL zones and narrow streets – but they’ll sort it out for you if you call ahead. I ended up just using the train from the airport anyway, which drops you right at Centrale, and then it’s maybe a 15-minute walk through the porticoes. Actually, that walk through the covered walkways is half the charm of staying here. You really feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.

Reviews of Un Gioiello sotto le Due Torri

  • Very friendly, great location, and stands out on having an actual style of its own. Highly – Jens from Germany – 11 July 2025 (9/10)

Personable, better than most. Not the usual IKEA plastic decor, but a stylish comfortable place. With a bathtub! Great location.

What could be improved: Not much of a view. Not a big deal: but always nice to have something there waiting for you when you get into new place, even simple things like oil and vinegar.

  • Fantastic Location – Kerry from Ireland – 29 May 2025 (9/10)

Superb location in the historic centre with loads of nice restaurants, cafes and bars within a few minute's walk. Despite the central location, could not hear any street noise from the apartment. Host was very friendly and responsive. Apartment was on second floor so lift was convenient. Apartment was spacious for 2 people.

What could be improved: For our 4 night stay would have appreciated more than 2 coffee pods and 1 toilet roll. There was an intermittent bad sewer smell in bathroom but this seemed to be due to building infrastructure rather than cleanliness of bathroom. Could hear people from neighbouring apartments quite clearly, didn't really bother us but might be worth bringing earplugs if you are a light sleeper!

  • Fabulous apartment – I highly recommend – Dianne from Australia – 16 April 2025 (10/10)

The apartment location was excellent – very comfortable bed and apartment facilities all you need

  • Very comfortable flat in great location – a real jewel! – Elke from United Kingdom – 14 April 2025 (9/10)

The flat was very comfortable, spacious and quiet and the location was superb. There are several tables in the flat, so it is possible to spread out and to work on laptops if necessary. The kitchen is also very functional. The only slight downside is that the shower is in the bath – but this worked fine for us. Filippo was also very helpful and responsive whenever I had a question.

  • For a couple , to stay 3 days in Bologna, recommended – Ako from Iran – 26 March 2025 (8/10)

The access was great , also it’s in the middle of city .
My major problem was sounds from other units(specially upper floor) which it’s common in historically located areas.
Host was very responsive and guided all in the best way

  • Superb – Veit from Germany – 13 November 2024 (9/10)

Excellent location, beautiful building, very clean and tastefully decorated. Very kind and readily available host.

What could be improved: It was rather hot inside, so we had to sleep with open windows (in November)

  • Great apartment, gracious host – Renee from United States – 24 October 2024 (10/10)

Everything about the apartment exceeded my expectation: Clean, bright, quiet, safe, tastefully furnished, very close to historic center, and plenty of eateries nearby. Host Filippo was exceptionally attentive and accommodating. I have no hesitation recommending the property.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Location was as good as you could expect and the apartment was comfortable. – Keith from New Zealand – 13 October 2024 (8/10)

Filippo was very helpful and provided plenty of tips.

What could be improved: For 5 night stay, the amenities were a little lacking as had to go out and buy shampoo, soap and toilet paper on day 2 as there was only enough for one night.

  • The property is a colourful place to lay your head – all you need for a Bologna visit. – Shirley from Australia – 20 September 2024 (9/10)

It was quiet, comfortable, trendy and especially convenient, despite being just off the main streets – a true jewel under the Two Towers, as the name suggests.

What could be improved: A previous guest problem meant there was no plug to have a bath.

  • Exceptional – Mary from United States – 17 September 2024 (10/10)

Excellent location in center of old Bologna, steps away from restaurants and shopping. Filippo was a great host – welcoming and responsive. Apartment was immaculately clean and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.
