TORTE & LINI Overview

So I stumbled across TORTE & LINI during my last trip to Bologna, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when I walked up to Via Jacopo Barozzi 6 – it’s tucked away in this quietly residential area that feels more like where actual Bolognese people live rather than where tourists usually end up. You take the stairs to piano 1, scala B, and there’s something kind of charming about that whole Italian apartment building vibe, though I’ll admit I was slightly winded by the time I got there with my suitcase.

The thing that struck me right away was how the place manages to feel both polished and genuinely welcoming – you know how some four-star places can be a bit stuffy? This isn’t that at all. The staff actually seemed to care about whether you found the neighborhood bakery I’d been asking about (it’s literally two blocks away on Via del Borgo, by the way, and their cornetti are ridiculous). What really won me over was the attention to small details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just passing through. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly – I mean, I was video calling back home without any issues – and the rooms have this sort of understated elegance that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard. The soundproofing is surprisingly good too, which matters because Bologna can get pretty lively in the evenings, especially when the university students are out.

Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk from the main action around Piazza Maggiore, but honestly that’s perfect because you get to cut through some of the quieter streets where you’ll find those little osterie that don’t have English menus but serve the kind of ragù that makes you understand why Bologna is so proud of its food scene. There’s a decent bus stop nearby if you don’t feel like walking, and – this is key – you can actually get here from the train station without too much hassle, which isn’t always a given in Italian cities. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where you’ll see locals walking their dogs and elderly signoras doing their shopping, but it never feels sketchy or too far from civilization. I’d definitely go back, particularly because the whole experience felt more authentic than those cookie-cutter places near the tourist zones, and honestly, at an 8.7 rating, they’re clearly doing something right. Just pack light for those stairs, or maybe ask about luggage help when you book.

Reviews of TORTE & LINI

  • Very good – Wioleta from United States – 3 July 2025 (8/10)

Very close to Bologna Centrale station. Easy after hours check in. Good air-conditioning, delicious breakfast.

  • Recommend to anyone looking for a quick city break in Bologna. Super close to old city centre. – Andreea from Romania – 27 June 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: The entrance to the apartments could be signaled better – as they are located within a block of flats and there's multiple entrances.

  • Fantastic place to stay in Bologna – Ann from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (9/10)

Comfortable bed and clean modern bedroom decor. Lovely breakfast. Friendly staff. Very accommodating, able to check in earlier.
Close to train station, which was good for travelling to airport early in the morning.

What could be improved: Had our own separate private bathroom (knew that on booking as it was the only room still available). Just had to be careful you didn't shut the bedroom door in the middle of the night when going to the bathroom and lock yourself out.

  • 10 out of 10 stay with incredibly helpful staff – Laura from United Kingdom – 19 June 2025 (10/10)

Absolutely amazing stay in Bologna, the staff could not have been more helpful and recommended things for us to do over the most gorgeous breakfast! The room was clean and tastefully decorated we just wish we could have stayed longer!

What could be improved: Nothing it was a lovely stay!

  • Exceptional – Palmer from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

The 2 ladies we dealt with were so friendly and helpful- can't praise highly enough. The room was comfortable and, though we were a bit concerned about our bathroom being adjacent rather than en suite, it was no problem at all. The included breakfast was outstanding.

What could be improved: Exterior and location not immediately appealing but were actually fine.

  • Very good – Anastasios from Poland – 10 June 2025 (8/10)

Great location, clean, comfortable, staff was very nice

What could be improved: Check in process needs more attention, as the other tenants of the building are locking the door, making the code process inefficient.

  • Great area and accommodation, excellent host and we would stay here again – Kay from United Kingdom – 3 June 2025 (9/10)

Great location, close to a vaparetto stop and a lovely piazza. Very comfortable property with everything you needed.

What could be improved: Nothing was not liked.

  • COMFORTABLE NICE CLEAN CENTRALLY LOCATED QUIET PLACE WITH EXCELLENT BREAKFAST WORTH COMING EVERYTIME – Lawrence from Australia – 1 June 2025 (10/10)

I stayed in a large room with a separate outside large toilet. Very big rooms/bright/well ventilated(I hate hotel air conditioning) with large double glazed windows, as it is near a train station. No noise with this type of window. In some hotels, you can smell sewage in some Italian hotels/hostels, but not this place. I like the cleanliness (top marks to the cleaner, Tania, who speaks excellent English & guide us to some nice places). Breakfast is excellent with Danish pastries, fried eggs, fresh fruits, proper B/F cereal, and multigrain bread(hate cheap white bread). The owner kept contacting me before our arrival to ensure we would arrive OK.
Never came across a host being so responsive(active responsive), never came across such a breakfast provider(we asked for extra vegies & we got lots of cucumber, carrots & nice tomato with no extra charge.
I am 74 & have travelled extensively in Kamandu, India, Europe, Middle East & have never come across such a nice place. I am very particular about cleanliness. Some 5-star hotels might be nicer & some hotels with suites are nicer, but you can't beat the hominess & hospitality hear. Definitely will come back as Balogna is such a good foodie place. Foodie generally nicer and cheaper compared with Rome, Florence etc. Nice to be away from busy tourist places.

What could be improved: Google map went crazy & took us around the back of the train station. Near the back of the train station, it is very dirty. This has nothing to do with the property we are staying in. We have this problem all over the world. Train stations & tourist areas are being invaded by drug addicts & homeless people. I came from Melbourne =Australia, it is the same. BUT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS PROPERTY.

  • Ultra clean and most accommodating – Jeanette from Australia – 30 May 2025 (8/10)

Firstly I never stayed in a room that looks like the one in the promo
While the stay was comfortable and the facilities more than adequate, locating the facility was somewhat challenging
More details needed to be provided as to its actual location within a rather large complex
Finally the breakfast was very good and the owner went out of her way to assist us to the extent of driving us to the station as no taxis were available

What could be improved: Locating the actual dwelling once we got to the address of the bnb

  • B&B with warmth and comfort – Nicole from Australia – 12 May 2025 (10/10)

Beautifully Renovated accommodation, large well appointed room with large spacious separate bathroom. Rooms decorated with an eye for interior design. Incredible pastry selection for breakfast with homemade brioche. Excellent location from the Bologna centre train station and short walk into the old town.
