Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Bologna apartments over the years, and Realkasa Montebello Flat honestly surprised me in the best way. When you first walk up to 7 Via Montebello terra, you’re not exactly in the thick of tourist central – which is actually perfect because you get this authentic Bologna neighborhood feel without the constant crowds. The building itself has that solid, understated Italian charm that doesn’t scream “vacation rental” to everyone walking by.

What really got me was how thoughtfully everything was set up inside. I mean, sure, it’s got the standard apartment amenities you’d expect from a 4-star place, but there are these little touches that show someone actually lives in Bologna and knows what travelers need. The kitchen is properly stocked (not just two forks and a broken can opener like some places), and honestly, the bed situation is comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with Italian furniture all night. The WiFi actually works consistently too – I know that sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how many places in Bologna’s older buildings struggle with that.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you: you’re about a 12-minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, which means you can stumble home after dinner at those late-night trattorias without paying for a taxi, but you’re far enough out that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing at 2 AM. The neighborhood has a couple of solid local spots – there’s this little alimentari around the corner where the owner will actually tell you which prosciutto is best that day, and you know what, that kind of local interaction is worth more than being right next to the main tourist drag. Parking isn’t a nightmare either, which anyone who’s driven in Bologna will tell you is basically a miracle.

The building can be a bit echoey – typical for these older Bologna structures – so you might hear your neighbors occasionally, but nothing that kept me up at night. Check-in was smooth, no standing around with luggage wondering if anyone’s actually coming to meet you. The whole experience felt more like borrowing a friend’s well-maintained apartment than staying in some sterile hotel room. That 8.9 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days and realized all the small things that just work without you having to think about them.

  It was less than 10mins walk from the train station and only 10mins walk to the centre of the city. There was an Aldi a minutes walk away and a bar right next door. We also found we could use the bar in the hotel opposite which served very good cocktails. The property was so very clean and very well thought out, with a very comfy bed and and exceptional shower room.

  Great weeklong stay! Central location – 5 mins from train, 10 mins from old city. Grocery store less than a block away. Hosts were gracious to let us check in a little early and had amazing communication. Highlights for me were: fast WiFi, comfy bed, full blackout blinds, fully stocked kitchen and great water pressure. Location is super quiet and secure . Highly recommend this for a longer stay in Bologna.

  The location of the flat was great and the space was quite spacious. Checking in was an easy process. Required to sign a contract which was a. It odd but the process was quite straightforward.
  
  What could be improved: It was not very clean. There were stains on the carpet and on the sheets. We expected more hygiene considering how much we are paying per night for the flat

  Perfect location and finished to a high standard. Very secure. Emma met us at the apartment and was very helpful. Any queries quickly answered via what’s app. Very accommodating as we had a late flight and were able to have a later check out. Excellent cafe just round corner.
  
  What could be improved: No provisions as welcome pack. Bottle of water and dishwasher tablets would have been helpful. A couple more towels would have been nice as we stayed for 6 nights. Lucky there was a washing machine!

  It’s a great location between Bologna Centrale station and the old centre of town. Easy access from the station means you can easily walk there. Key collection was really easy and Marco met us exactly on time. It was great to have a washing machine and dryer. It’s a very quiet location with a cafe next door for an early morning coffee.
  
  What could be improved: Adding some basic supplies would make this perfect: a couple of washing machine pods, an ironing board (the steamer is good, but it’s time consuming to steam a lot of things) and a drying rack (instead of using the dryer). If you keep the shutters closed, the aircon can cool the area down, but it’s definitely not cold.
