Sweet Home Bologna Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Bologna over the years, and Sweet Home Bologna honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a hotel’s name makes you roll your eyes a little? Well, this one actually lives up to it. The moment you walk into this converted townhouse on Via Aglebert, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about what travelers actually want – not just what looks good in photos.
The Saragozza neighborhood is where you want to be if you’re done with the tourist circus around Piazza Maggiore but still want to feel connected to the city. I mean, you’re a pleasant 15-minute walk from the center, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re practically next door to some of Bologna’s best kept secrets. There’s this incredible osteria about three blocks down that doesn’t even have a sign, and the morning market on Via Saragozza has vendors who’ve been there for decades. The street itself is quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows open (something I always test because, honestly, Italian cities can be noisy).
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between boutique charm and actual functionality. The rooms feel like someone’s stylish apartment rather than a hotel room – and I don’t mean that in a “we forgot to include a proper desk” way. The bathrooms are genuinely spacious, which anyone who’s traveled through Italy knows is practically a miracle. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too; no lengthy speeches about amenities I’ll never use. The staff seems to actually live in Bologna, not just work there – they gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t in any guidebook. One woman at the front desk told me about a gelateria that’s only open Thursday through Sunday, and honestly, it ended up being a highlight of my trip.
The whole building has this relaxed energy that makes you want to linger over breakfast instead of rushing out to tick off sightseeing boxes. You can tell they’ve put thought into the small stuff – good lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a gas station. The common areas feel lived-in rather than staged, which is refreshing when so many places feel like Instagram sets. I stayed here during late spring, and the little courtyard area was perfect for that first espresso of the day. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in the city, but for a 4-star place with this much personality and that 8.5 rating? It’s actually pretty fair value, especially considering you’re getting that neighborhood authenticity that’s getting harder to find in European cities these days.

Reviews of Sweet Home Bologna
Distant Location and Overbearing Staff – Gül from Turkey – 15 June 2025 (7/10)
Clean and comfortable
What could be improved: It’s quite far from the city center — about 30 minutes by walking or 17-minute bus ride. The staff was overly persistent and intrusive; I’ve never had to deal with this much interaction at other places I’ve stayed. There was constant pressure about various things, including my arrival time. There is no online check in.Excellent option for couples – Aidar from Germany – 12 June 2025 (10/10)
We liked the place, it is a convenient location, not far from the stadium and the city centre. The host was very friendly. We especially enjoyed a very comfy bed. After a long walk, it is the only thing you need to get rested. Plus, the place is not far from the Marconi Airport, therefore, if you are more than one traveler, it is cheaper to take taxi rather than use the public transport.
What could be improved: I cannot mention anything that spoiled our experience.Nice stay – Alvi from Albania – 2 December 2024 (8/10)
The location was perfect. The house was very clean . The staff was very helpful with everything
What could be improved: The noise outside , you can hear it all inside the apartment. It didn’t had hot water all the timeTotally recommend it! – Anamarija from North Macedonia – 30 October 2024 (10/10)
The apartment was really clean and has everything you need. It’s in a beautiful neighbourhood and like 20min walk to the city centre.
The host was really helpful as well!Very good – Megan from Italy – 21 October 2024 (8/10)
The apartment was clean and comfortable. Raffaella and Anna were very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, while we were in Bologna there was terrible flooding and a power cut, so we were unable to make the most of our stay, but Raffaella was available all the time on the phone to make sure we were ok.
What could be improved: It was difficult to find parking in the area. I would recommend providing guests with a list of nearby streets which have plenty of parking (for example Via Pasubio, Via Asiago, Via Del Timavo, Via Vittorio Veneto etc). They are a few minutes walk away but much wider streets with more possibility of finding a space.Excellent trip to Bologna ! – Sorin from Romania – 23 September 2024 (10/10)
Nice and quiet location, 20 min walk to the Old Center and 25-30 min to Bologna Centrale, 15 min with taxi till the airport. Spacious and clean, fully equipped, delicious coffee, very comfortable matrimonial bed and sofa. Markets across the street, supermarket on 3 min walk. Luxurious bathroom, very good wifi. Raffaella was the helpful and nicest person !
Exceptional – Joanna from Poland – 14 September 2024 (10/10)
This place was really great, clean, and cosy. During our stay everything was perfect and Raffaela was so nice and helpful person.
The kitchen in the apartment was very well equipped and the bathroom was clean. The neighborhood was calm with great restaurants without a lot of tourists.
What could be improved: There was no such thing, everything was perfect.Fantastic – Gary from South Africa – 12 September 2024 (9/10)
Everything about this place was perfect as a base to visit Bologna. Good bed, great bathroom, very neat and had everything you needed. Bus stop very nearby. Shops for groceries a short walk along the main road.
