Suites Indipendenza 58 Overview
You know what struck me first about Suites Indipendenza 58? The building itself – it’s one of those beautifully restored Bolognese palazzos that somehow manages to feel both grand and intimate at the same time. I mean, you’re literally on Via dell’Indipendenza, which is basically Bologna’s main artery, but once you step inside, the street noise just… disappears. The suites (and they really are proper suites, not just rooms with a sitting area) have these gorgeous high ceilings and period details that remind you you’re in a city that’s been around for nearly a thousand years.
What I actually love most about this place is how it sits perfectly between the train station and the historic center – you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about ten minutes, but you’re also close enough to the station that you don’t need to wrestle with taxis or buses when you arrive. The neighborhood itself is honestly underrated; there’s this fantastic little osteria called Al Sangiovese just around the corner that serves the best tortellini in brodo I’ve had outside of someone’s nonna’s kitchen. The hotel staff will point you toward the obvious spots like the Two Towers (which, fair enough, you should see), but they also know about places like the morning market on Via Ugo Bassi where locals actually shop.
The suites themselves are spacious enough that you can actually unpack and spread out – there’s a proper living area with a sofa where you can collapse after walking the porticoes all day, and the kitchenette is more than just decorative. I stayed during the busy season in late spring, and while the street can get lively (especially on weekend evenings), the windows are solid and the AC works well. Honestly, the only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevator is pretty compact – vintage Italian building, you know? But the staff is incredibly helpful with luggage, and there’s something charming about the whole experience. The 9.5 rating makes complete sense when you consider that this isn’t just a place to sleep – it’s genuinely comfortable, the location is unbeatable if you want to explore Bologna properly, and the staff treats you like they’re actually happy you’re there. Plus, having a kitchen means you can grab fresh pasta and ingredients from the markets and have a proper meal in your room, which honestly beats most hotel restaurants anyway.

Owner was really nice. The room is very coazy and clean. The terrace was very quiet and comfortable.
Beautiful apartment in an excellent area. – Lidia from Germany – 11 July 2025 (10/10)
The apartment is beautiful and in a strategic area of Bologna, with close proximity to all major points. Excellent location. The apartment is very spacious with two comfortable and tastefully furnished rooms and a very comfortable bathroom. We enjoyed the terrace in the evenings.
Our host was charming, polite, and helpful.
We had such a great time in Bologna! We definitely warmly recommend it!
What could be improved: Everything was excellent !A delightful way to round off a tour of Italy in a perfect location with a great host, thank you! – David from United Kingdom – 9 July 2025 (10/10)
Location was excellent, a few minutes walk into Piazza Maggiore (Main Square) and really close to restaurants, bars, museums, everything you would want to have nearby. The suite itself was fantastic, tastefully done out with some great retro gear like TVs, furniture and even has an outside terrace with a BBQ! Giancarlo was a superb host, provided lots of useful information on area, restaurants, museums etc and was always contactable if needed.
What could be improved: We didn't have any issues at all so that answer is short and sweet!Exceptional – Traveling from United States – 23 June 2025 (10/10)
An eclectic and comfortable nook in a bustling city. The space felt very secure and I liked being able to peer through the oddly high number of windows in the apartment. There was a small terrace with views of the neighborhood which was a great spot for morning coffee. I was only here a night but I felt I could have stayed longer.
Convenient location in a fascinating town – Bridget from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (10/10)
Convenient location between station and the main town, where there is lots to do and see, and places to eat. Plenty of space to spread out. Air con effective. Very helpful and responsive host. As soon as we mentioned we needed bowls for breakfast cereal, he arrived with 4 brand new bowls! Balcony was lovely for breakfast
What could be improved: We’d have liked a larger fridge, as we couldn’t stand the milk upright in it, although we did manage.
Other reviews have mentioned ceiling height, but we didn’t find this a problem. There is plenty of other space with full ceiling height for two people, and the area with the lower ceiling was very convenient for sorting luggage on the floor without getting in the wayThe owner was good people and assisted to city travel. Thanks a lot everything 🙂 – Batuhan from Turkey – 17 June 2025 (10/10)

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Bologna – Anne from Belgium – 2 June 2025 (8/10)
We had a wonderful stay in this charming apartment right in the heart of Bologna’s old town. Perfectly located within walking distance of all the key sights, cozy cafés, and fantastic restaurants, it made exploring the city a breeze. The apartment is small but very well-equipped and tucked away at the top of a peaceful five-story building — a real little haven above the rooftops. The owner takes great pride in making guests feel welcome and was always available for any questions, which made our stay even more enjoyable. A true gem for anyone wanting to experience Bologna like a local!
What could be improved: Just a heads-up: while it’s not the owner’s fault, the city is currently building a new tram line, and during our stay, construction work started as early as 7am — even on weekends.Loved it! Wished we could stay for another week! – Cassandra from Australia – 22 May 2025 (10/10)
Giancarlo was an amazing host and very helpful for letting us leave our luggage and give us recommendations for what to do and eat in Bologna. The place was clean and the vintage decor was such a nice touch. We will definitely stay here again!!
What could be improved: Only thing was the low ceiling beams in certain parts of the apartment so something to keep in mind for tall peoplegreat stay – Alan from United States – 14 May 2025 (10/10)
Just a nice comfortable place…midway between the train station and old town. Plenty of space, nice bathroom
What could be improved: Not "didn't like" but I would suggest letting people know that you really have to lean into the main door when opening it. It makes you think the keys don't work. Minor thing…it's a great place.Extraordinary room in the city center. – Luiza from Poland – 11 May 2025 (10/10)
The room was huge, with a separate part with a couch and a small table. Big bed with big tv, open-space kitchen with coffee machines, kettle, and other kitchen utensils. Bathroom was well equipped, with a shower, bidet, hairdryer and towels. The room was decorated with a modern styled artifacts, which added a very comfy feeling. There was also a tarrace, with chairs, table and grill. The location was perfect – in the city center, around 10 minutes to train station.
