HomeInBo Overview
You know what struck me first about HomeInBo? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it genuinely feels like someone’s stylish Bologna home rather than a typical hotel. I mean, Via Donato Creti isn’t one of those touristy streets everyone talks about, but that’s honestly part of its charm. You’re in a proper residential neighborhood where locals are walking their dogs and chatting with shopkeepers, yet you can still walk to Piazza Maggiore in about fifteen minutes.
The building itself has that understated Bologna elegance – you know, the kind where the facade doesn’t scream “look at me” but everything inside is thoughtfully done. Check-in was refreshingly smooth (no hovering around a cramped lobby with your luggage), and the staff actually seemed to know the city well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. The rooms have this modern-meets-traditional thing going on that works better than it sounds – clean lines and contemporary furniture, but they’ve kept some of the original architectural details that remind you you’re in a centuries-old Italian city. The beds are properly comfortable too, which honestly isn’t always a given in European hotels.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Bologna can be surprisingly lively after dark, especially around the university areas, but this little pocket of the city settles down nicely. You’ll hear the occasional vespa puttering by, but it’s more charming than disruptive. The neighborhood has this authentic feel – there’s a fantastic little osteria about two blocks away that I stumbled upon purely by accident, and a morning market on Saturdays where locals actually shop for groceries. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving (Bologna’s centro storico has those ZTL restrictions), but the hotel staff knows the workarounds and nearby options. The 8.6 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything they do, they do well. It’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’re experiencing Bologna as it actually is, not some sanitized tourist version of it.
