Casa di Spagna Overview
You know what? I almost walked right past Casa di Spagna the first time I tried to find it. Via Collegio di Spagna is this narrow little street that feels tucked away from everything – which honestly turned out to be one of the best things about staying there. The Saragozza neighborhood isn’t where most tourists end up, but that’s exactly why I loved it. You’re still close enough to walk to Piazza Maggiore (maybe 15 minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the porticoes), but you actually feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might live.
The hotel itself has this understated elegance that I wasn’t expecting from the photos online. I mean, it’s a 4-star place so you know it’s going to be nice, but there’s something about the way they’ve restored this old building that feels authentic rather than flashy. The lobby has these gorgeous original tiles – I actually spent way too much time studying the patterns while waiting for my friend to come down one morning. The rooms are what you’d hope for in Bologna: high ceilings, shuttered windows that actually block out light (crucial if you’re jet-lagged), and bathrooms that are modern without being sterile. My room faced the courtyard, which was perfect because Via Collegio di Spagna can get a bit noisy during the day with delivery trucks squeezing through.
What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation – they serve it in this bright room overlooking a little garden, and the staff actually seemed to remember how I liked my coffee after the second day. That 9.1 rating makes total sense when you experience little touches like that. The location is honestly genius if you want to explore Bologna properly. You’re right in the university area, so there are tons of great bars and restaurants that aren’t overrun with tour groups. I discovered this incredible osteria just two blocks away that I never would have found if I’d stayed closer to the main tourist zone. Plus, if you’re planning to do any day trips – maybe to Modena or Parma – you can actually get a taxi from here without dealing with all the restricted traffic zones in the centro storico. Just be aware that like everywhere in Bologna’s old town, there’s no real parking situation, so if you’re driving, you’ll want to sort that out ahead of time. But honestly, once you’re here, you’ll probably want to walk everywhere anyway – that’s half the charm of Bologna.

Location is great, super clean, spacious, warm, 2 large beds ( 1 is large sofa) the host is super nice, she helped me to call a taxi to the airport, we needed to check in earlier and the host allowed it, super accommodating! Nice view from our room!

What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was perfectJust like a home – Sema from Turkey – 10 August 2024 (9/10)
Every detail you may need has been considered in every part of the house. Whatever comes to your mind … A good location for Bologna. A message is sent in detail about what you need to do for a quick check in and out. The sheets, bathroom and kitchen were very clean. Unfortunately we could only experience this beautiful stay for one night.
What could be improved: Three floors up with no lift. Always up and down with two kids and a stroller.Exceptional – Katja from Germany – 8 August 2024 (10/10)
Great Place!! Perfect Location!! Easy Access!! Just recomendable!!!
Superb – Richard from United Kingdom – 8 August 2024 (9/10)
The apartment has a lovely layout with many windows and good natural light. It is very well stocked with cooking utensils, spare bedding and washing machine facilities. The surrounding area is quiet but still very close to the city centre. It was really nice to stay in a proper Italian apartment rather than a soulless hotel.
What could be improved: The air conditioning is a bit weak for the bedroom area, although we did stay in a very hot week. Would definitely recommend other guests close the external bedroom shutters during the morning as the sun is quite strong.Comfortable and well-appointed flat in a great location – Kelly from United Kingdom – 6 July 2024 (9/10)
Comfortable and well-appointed flat in a great location. Close to the centre but located in a neighbourhood that felt more local than traveller. Great bars and restaurants close by. The flat was perfect for a couple visiting for a few days. I would happily stay here again.
