Smart Apartment Nettuno – TWA Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Smart Apartment Nettuno – TWA on Via d’Azeglio, you immediately get that feeling you’re in the right spot. I mean, this is proper central Bologna — the kind of street where locals actually live and work, not just a tourist corridor. The building itself has that understated Italian elegance that doesn’t scream for attention but quietly whispers quality. It’s a four-star property that honestly feels more intimate than your typical hotel, which makes sense given the apartment-style setup.

The Heart of Bologna

You know what’s brilliant about this location? You’re literally steps from everything that matters in Bologna, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant foot traffic outside your window. The Piazza Maggiore is maybe a three-minute walk — I timed it because I’m that kind of person — and you can easily stroll to the university quarter or those famous porticoes without breaking a sweat. Couples absolutely love it here, and honestly, I can see why. There’s something romantic about having your own little Bologna base while being able to disappear into the city’s winding streets whenever you want.

Your Bologna Home Base

The room setup is what really sets this place apart from standard hotels. You get proper living space — not just a bed crammed next to a tiny desk. The kitchenette is actually functional, which is rare in these apartment-style places. I appreciated having somewhere to store those amazing mortadella and parmigiano purchases from the local markets. The design feels contemporary but warm, with enough character that you don’t feel like you’re staying in a corporate box. Actually, the whole space has this lived-in quality that makes you want to settle in for more than just a night or two.

Local Life and Logistics

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood — not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little osteria around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. Parking can be tricky in this part of Bologna, but they’ve got that sorted with nearby options. The building itself is quiet, which matters when you’re trying to recover from all that incredible Bolognese food and wine. You’re close enough to hear the city’s gentle hum, but far enough from the main drags that you can actually sleep.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it gives you the best of both worlds — the independence of having your own space with the backup of hotel-style service when you need it. Bologna isn’t a huge city, but having this central location means you can explore different neighborhoods on foot and always have an easy retreat. The apartment feel means you can live a bit like a local, grabbing fresh ingredients from the morning markets or just having a proper coffee in your own space. It’s the kind of place that makes you think about extending your stay, which is probably the best compliment you can give any accommodation.

Hotels in Bologna fan out beneath terracotta rooftops, medieval towers, and arcades humming with espresso bars.

Reviews of Smart Apartment Nettuno – TWA

  • Excellent accommodation ! – Barbara from Belgium – 31 May 2025 (9/10)

The location, spacey apartment, very clean and all facilities were new

What could be improved: We couldn’t climate the room. It was too hot and we could turn on the A/C.
The neighbourhood is a bit noisy, but this is because of the location.

  • Difficult entry, but good after that – Alan from United States – 7 May 2025 (9/10)

Overall, a good experience. Great location, large unit, including full kitchen.

What could be improved: The initial entry process was difficult. The front door of the building is locked, and there is no buzzer to contact the owner, which was not indicated by either Booking.com or the owner. I guess one is supposed to phone the owner, but I could only phone via wifi and there was no wifi outside the building. Eventually, I was able to sneak in the building, and go upstairs where there was wifi, so I could call the owner, who said the keys were in a lockbox, but they were not. So then the owner remotely opened the door of the unit for me. After that, everything was fine. But I would recommend not booking this unit unless you have a phone with a SIM card and data plan that works in Italy. Also, a week prior to arrival, the owner asked for my phone number to contact me via WhatsApp, but never did contact me. So, I contacted them from the train station, and then they required me to register and pay a city tax via my phone before arrival, which was inconvenient. I don't know why they didn't contact me in advance so I could do all that via computer from home.
