You know what caught me off guard about Casa Limone? I was expecting another cookie-cutter boutique hotel, but this place actually has character. It’s tucked away on Via Misa in the Savena district – honestly, I had to look twice to make sure I was in the right spot because it sits so naturally in this residential neighborhood. The building itself has this warm, honey-colored facade that just screams “Italian charm” without trying too hard, and there’s something about the way the morning light hits those windows that makes you want to grab a coffee and just… linger.

The location is pretty clever, actually. You’re about a 15-minute bus ride from Bologna’s centro storico, which means you get to experience the city like locals do – hopping on the number 25 or 35 bus with students and office workers instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble around Piazza Maggiore. I mean, don’t get me wrong, you’ll definitely want to spend time in the historic center, but there’s something refreshing about coming back to a quieter part of town where you can actually hear yourself think. The Savena area has this lived-in feel – there’s a fantastic pasticceria about three blocks down where the cornetti are still warm at 7 AM, and the local mercato on Saturday mornings is where you’ll find the best mortadella outside of the city center (trust me on this one).

Inside, the hotel strikes this nice balance between boutique touches and practical comfort. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Italy, after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with these gorgeous terrazzo floors and surprisingly good blackout curtains (essential if you’re jet-lagged). The beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given in European hotels, and the bathrooms have proper water pressure – small victories that matter when you’re traveling. What really won me over was the attention to detail: fresh limone scent in the hallways (subtle, not overwhelming), locally-sourced breakfast items, and a front desk staff that seems genuinely interested in helping rather than just checking boxes. The breakfast spread is solid – proper espresso, fresh pastries, and they do this thing with local honey that I’m still thinking about weeks later.

Honestly, the 8.6 rating makes sense. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Bologna, but it gets the fundamentals right and then adds those little touches that make you feel like you’ve discovered something special. The only minor critique? The elevator is tiny (typical for converted buildings), so if you’re traveling with lots of luggage, just mentally prepare for that. But really, that’s part of the charm – this feels like a place where thoughtful travelers end up, not just anyone following the most popular booking results.

  Appartamento accogliente e ben attrezzato, di facile accesso tranne per i 3 scalini all'ingresso prima dell'ascensore. Luminosa e arieggiata grazie alle finestre ed ai 3 terrazzini. Ci sono ventilatori per l'estate ma in inverno è calda. La casa si trova al quarto piano (raggiungibile con l'ascensore) ed è sicura grazie alle inferriate. Ci sono molti parcheggi anche se la zona è densamente popolata e serve pazienza
  
  What could be improved: Mancano prese di corrente vicino alla testata del letto nella camera principale (per luce notturna oppure ricarica cellulare) , nel bagno c'è la vasca attrezzata per la doccia ma non fruibile per chi ha problemi di mobilità. Farebbe comodo in cucina un microonde o almeno un bollitore per l'acqua.

  The rooms are spacious, same the kitchen. The neighborhood is very pleasant with a park nearby.

  Peaceful neighbourhood, 45 min walk from the centre, bus station not far away; bus tickets can be bought in the small shop in the same building. Apartment was super clean and spacious. TV with Chromcast. Our host Riccardo gave us excellent recommendations for places to eat in Bologna, from bars for breakfast, take out places, markets and restaurants, and transport. Thank you Riccardo, we enjoyed our stay in Bologna!
