The kitchenette is legit functional too, which you’ll appreciate when you realize the local market on Via Emilia is just a short walk away and you can actually cook with proper Italian ingredients. The design leans modern without being sterile, though honestly, you’ll probably spend more time exploring than lounging inside anyway. What really sold me was the quiet – San Donato has this residential calm that lets you actually sleep, but you’re still only about 15 minutes from the city center by bus. The 35 line runs pretty regularly, and there’s decent parking around here if you’ve got a car, which is more than I can say for anywhere near Piazza Maggiore.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a place where they’re going to hold your hand through every tourist attraction. The staff is helpful enough, but they assume you’re a grown-up who can figure out how to get around. I actually prefer that approach, especially in a city like Bologna where half the fun is just wandering and discovering things. The neighborhood has this authentic energy – there’s a fantastic little osteria about two blocks down that I never would have found if I’d stayed in the centro storico, and the morning coffee scene at the bar around the corner is exactly what you hope for in Italy. You know what really impressed me? The place maintains that 4-star quality without feeling stuffy or overly managed. The cleaning is thorough, the beds are comfortable, and everything works properly – which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how often hotels mess up the fundamentals. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting apartment-style space and local neighborhood vibes at a price that won’t destroy your travel budget. It’s not flashy, but it’s exactly what you want if you’re planning to actually experience Bologna rather than just Instagram it.

  There is a train station right next door (but it's only for specific trains that stop there). Good thing is that they have a living room and kitchen facilities, quite spacious. Host responded very promptly and answered all our questions.
  
  What could be improved: It was quite noisy (because of the trains passing by and the announcements) and neighbours. Also this house does not have an elevator. There are a few things that host needs to consider fixing like flickering and broken lightbulbs.
