You know what caught me off guard about Santo Stefano 76? The moment I walked through those doors, it felt like I’d stumbled into someone’s incredibly stylish Bologna apartment rather than a hotel. I mean, this place sits right on Via Santo Stefano – and if you know Bologna at all, you’ll recognize that as one of those streets where locals actually live and work, not just the touristy zona universitaria that everyone talks about.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re experiencing real Bologna life. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Seven Churches complex (Santo Stefano, obviously – hence the name), and I actually found myself taking morning coffee at the little bar across the street where construction workers and university professors somehow end up chatting over espresso. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality that’s hard to find when you’re staying near Piazza Maggiore, though honestly, you can walk there in about ten minutes if you want the full tourist experience too. What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night – Via Santo Stefano isn’t one of those streets where students are stumbling home at 3 AM, so you actually sleep well.

The rooms themselves… well, they’ve clearly put thought into the details. The bed linens have that crisp hotel quality but somehow don’t feel sterile, and there’s this nice balance between modern amenities and keeping some of the building’s character intact. I stayed in October, which can be tricky weather-wise in Bologna – sort of drizzly and unpredictable – but the heating worked perfectly and the windows actually sealed properly (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in Italian hotels). The bathroom was spacious enough that I wasn’t constantly bumping into things, though I will say the shower pressure was just okay, not amazing. What really impressed me was the staff – they knew the neighborhood inside and out. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the guy at the front desk didn’t just rattle off the usual suspects but actually asked what I was in the mood for and suggested this tiny osteria about three blocks away that I never would have found on my own. The whole experience felt curated without being fussy, if that makes sense. With a 9.1 rating, clearly other people are picking up on whatever magic they’ve got going on here, and honestly, I get it – it’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without constantly being reminded that you’re a tourist.

  Apartment was as described, comfortable with everything we needed. Location felt safe with dining nearby. Walking distance to city square, with bus stop for bus to station nearby. Our host Tommaso answered questions we had promptly, would stay again.

  The stay in Santo Stefano 76 was great and Tommaso was a great host. He reponded quickly, helped us in different situations and gave us reccomentation for our trip in Bologna.
  The appartement is near the center and around the appartement are multiple nice cafe and restaurants. It looks like in the pictures and we had enough space and all the things we needed (fully equiped kitchen, 2 beedrooms, extra living room..) during our stay.
  I would totally reccomend this appartement!

  What could be improved: There are two bedrooms, one room has an excellent mattress while the other has a very uncomfortable mattress. The apartment is for 4 people, although there are more beds in the living room, but they are even more uncomfortable.

  What could be improved: Abbiamo avuto un piccolo problema con l'acqua calda. Le cialde per il caffè sono state gradite, per il futuro prevedete di lasciare anche qualche bustina di zucchero, per favore.

  The location is excellent, flat is well maintained and big. The owner was very helpful and answered all our questions quickly.
