You know what struck me first about this place? The name “Central cosy apartment” is actually spot-on – it’s not trying to be fancy, just honest about what it delivers. Walking up to Via Guglielmo Marconi 28, I was honestly relieved to find it sits on one of Bologna’s more manageable streets, not buried in some impossible-to-navigate medieval maze (though trust me, you’ll want to get lost in those cobblestone tangles later).

The 4-star rating feels right – this isn’t trying to compete with the grand hotels near Piazza Maggiore, but it’s got that lived-in comfort that actually makes you want to stay in sometimes. The 8.7 rating makes sense once you’re inside; it’s the kind of place where everything just… works. The heating actually heats, the shower has decent pressure, and whoever set up the kitchen clearly cooks themselves – there’s a proper coffee maker, not just some sad instant packets. I mean, you’re in Bologna, so you’ll probably grab your morning espresso at the bar downstairs anyway (there’s always a bar downstairs in this neighborhood), but still.

What I really loved was how the location puts you right in the thick of regular Bologna life. Marconi isn’t touristy – it’s where locals actually live and shop. There’s a alimentari about two blocks down where the owner will slice your mortadella paper-thin while complaining about the weather, and honestly, those interactions are worth the trip alone. The university area is an easy walk, which means the streets have that perfect buzz of students and professors heading to lectures, especially in the morning. And here’s something the guidebooks don’t tell you – from this spot, you can actually walk to the train station in about fifteen minutes, which saved me a fortune in taxi fares during my week there.

The apartment itself has that slightly worn elegance that Italian places do so well – nothing’s brand new, but everything has character. The windows are big enough to let in proper light, and if you’re lucky enough to snag a unit facing the courtyard, it’s surprisingly quiet for being so central. I was there in October, and the radiators kicked in just when the evening chill started creeping in. Small thing, but after a day of wandering around looking at all that incredible architecture, you want a place that feels like a proper retreat.

Honestly, what won me over was how un-touristy the whole experience felt. You’re not staying in some sterile hotel where everyone speaks perfect English and the breakfast costs twenty euros. This feels more like borrowing a friend’s apartment – if that friend happened to have really good taste and knew exactly what travelers actually need. The kind of place where you might actually cook dinner one night instead of eating out, just because the kitchen makes you want to try recreating that ragu you had for lunch.

  The apartment is closed to the train station and also the city centre. Especially you are coming to Bologna for the film festival, all the screening venue are in walking distant. Super convenient.
  There is a supermarket just to next to the apartment and you can get anything from the supermarket.

  Comfortable and a good location with a 7/8 minute walk to Piazza Maggiore. Clean apartment exactly as shown on the photos. The owner Giovanni met us a the entrance and explained everything about the apartment and has a file on places to see/ history. Some lovely restaurants within a short walking distance.
