You know what surprised me about Les Chambres de Amelie? It’s tucked away on Via Cesare Boldrini – honestly, I walked right past it the first time because it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the street. But that’s actually part of its charm. You’re staying in what feels like a proper Bolognese residential building, not some tourist bubble, and you’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore without dealing with all the street noise that comes with being right in the thick of things.

The B&B has this lived-in elegance that I really appreciated – I mean, the rooms are thoughtfully put together without feeling overly precious about it. Amelie (yes, there’s an actual Amelie, and she’s lovely) clearly has an eye for detail. The breakfast setup is small but honestly perfect – fresh cornetti from the bakery down the street, proper espresso, and she’ll point you toward the best spots for lunch if you ask. What I loved most was how she’d casually mention things like “oh, avoid Via dell’Indipendenza around 7 PM, it gets crazy with commuters” – the kind of insider knowledge you just don’t get at bigger places. The Wi-Fi actually works well (I was working remotely for part of my stay), and the heating was solid during my November visit, which isn’t always a given in these older buildings.

Here’s the thing about the location – Via Cesare Boldrini puts you in this sweet spot where you can walk to everything that matters but still feel like you’re experiencing Bologna as locals do. The morning sounds are church bells and people heading to work, not tour groups. There’s a fantastic enoteca literally around the corner that most tourists never find, and the Saturday market at Piazza dell’VIII Agosto is a quick stroll away. Parking can be tricky (it’s Bologna, after all), but Amelie will sort you out with options if you’re driving. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but it nails what it’s going for. If you want room service and a concierge, look elsewhere. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentically Bolognese with a host who genuinely cares about your experience, this is your spot.

  We really loved the terrace area & the room was beautifully decorated. Coffee machine was brilliant. We felt very safe and secure. Location brilliant- 5 minute from train station and 15/20 minute walk to center!

  Great location for what we needed. Near the station does mean that it’s a little ‘lively’ at night. 10 minute walk to the old town. Easy access and good facilities, coffee biscuits etc, decent shower.
  
  What could be improved: Few ‘minors’ – shower leaked onto floor, toilet flush falling off wall, sink seemed semi blocked, draining very slowly.

  Great location next to the station, comfortable, clean and well equipped room with a very comfortable bed.
  
  What could be improved: The safe in the room did not work/had no instructions that we could read. The wifi code and other information was handwritten in Italian, making it difficult to translate. It would have been helpful to just have a printed sheet with this basic information in English since we booked from a British site. I had to call the help desk a couple of times, they were very helpful, but if it had been in a printed form in the room it would not have been necessary to bother them

  The room was cosy, nice interior. As it was a very rainy and cloudy day, the apartment was very warm, it was nice. The owner was very welcoming, kind and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: The region around the train station felt unsafe, many strange and homeless people. We had difficulties to enter the building – we couldn't open the door.
