Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Bologna, and the Rizzoli Terrace Apartment honestly surprised me in the best way. When you first walk up to 18 Via Rizzoli, you’re literally in the thick of everything – I mean, you can practically smell the tortellini cooking from the little osteria next door. The building itself has that classic Bolognese character with those gorgeous porticoes that the city’s famous for, and you know what? The apartment actually lives up to the promise of that “terrace” in the name.

The thing about this place is that it gets the balance right between feeling like a proper hotel experience and having that apartment vibe where you can actually spread out. The terrace (and trust me, in Bologna’s historic center, outdoor space is gold) overlooks the bustling street life below, but it’s not so noisy that you can’t enjoy your morning espresso out there. I stayed during late spring, and honestly, watching the students from the university weave between the locals doing their daily shopping was better than any TV show. The apartment itself is well-maintained – I’d say that 4-star rating is pretty accurate, though the shower pressure could use some work if I’m being picky. But the kitchen area is actually functional, which is rare for these historic conversions, and the air conditioning works properly during those sticky summer months when Bologna can feel like a brick oven.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way that every hotel claims. You’re a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, which means you can duck into Tamburini for the best mortadella sandwich of your life, then wander over to the basilica without breaking a sweat. The morning market at Mercato delle Erbe is right there too, so if you’re the type who likes to grab fresh ingredients (the kitchen setup actually makes this worthwhile), you’re set. Parking is… well, it’s Bologna’s historic center, so don’t even think about bringing a car. But the train station is maybe fifteen minutes on foot, and there’s a decent bus line if you’re dragging luggage. The whole check-in process was refreshingly straightforward – no standing around lobbies, just practical key exchange and solid local recommendations. I mean, the person who met me there knew to warn me about the Saturday market crowds and suggested the best time to visit the Asinelli Tower without the tourist crush. That 8.6 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it delivers exactly what you want from a Bologna base: comfort, character, and that unbeatable location that puts you right in the heart of Italy’s food capital.

  The location of this apartment is great, very close and right in the center of the city. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, and the terrace was fantastic. Even if we had rainy days, we could enjoy it.
  The host waited for us in the evening and showed us all relevant things in the apartment and provided useful information during our stay. Also I appreciated that we could leave our luggage at the agency office on our last day.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was great! Maybe I would have appreciated a bit more explanations on the heating system in the apartment and city.

  What could be improved: I think you should consider buying a couch/comfortable chairs for the living room. Currently the apartment does not invite guests for staying in the living room and having a good time with only one couch. Everything else was very good

  Beautiful flat with well appointed bathrooms and an expansive outdoor deck area for enjoying a bottle of wine in the evening. Perfect location near all the main sights. The gelato place across the road was awesome too!
  
  What could be improved: Minor point but the living room only has a 2 seater couch, but the place has 2 bedrooms so it’s likely to have at least 3 guests staying. The 3rd person would have to sit at the dining table facing us if we were all to hang out.

  The location is ideal. beds were comfortable. Having a terrace was lovely. Lots of light, fresh air and air conditioning. The automatic window shades were nice also.
  
  What could be improved: There’s no fan in the shower, so there is mold growing on the ceiling and walls in the bathroom.

  A great apartment in a super central location in the city. Couldn't have made a better choice. Spacious, with a great terrace and nice views of the towers of Bologna even from the windows in the back. Despite it's central location, the apartment was very quiet due to its great insulation. A nicely renovated building, has a lift that helps a lot since the apartment was on the 5th floor. Very friendly host, punctual and informative. She also let us have a late checkout! All in all, would highly recommend this place!
  
  What could be improved: If I wanted to be picky, the place lacks any character, personality and aesthetic of being in an Italian city. Could be anywhere in the world. Also, it looks furnished purely for a rental purpose, with no thought of real functionality. There was no coffee table in the living room, nowhere to place the soap in the sink and all the amenities in the shower had to be on the floor. These are little details yet can make a huge difference in really making this apartment truly amazing!
