Residenza Ariosto by Studio Vita Overview

You know what struck me first about Residenza Ariosto? It’s tucked away on Via Marsala in this surprisingly quiet pocket of Bologna that feels residential but isn’t – I mean, you’re literally five minutes from the train station, but somehow the street noise just doesn’t penetrate here. The building itself has that understated Italian elegance thing going on, where they’ve clearly put money into the renovation but didn’t feel the need to show off about it.

Studio Vita really nailed the balance here between boutique hotel vibes and apartment-style comfort. The rooms are spacious by European standards – actually spacious, not just “cozy” which usually means you’re bumping into furniture. What I loved was how they kept some of the original architectural details (the high ceilings, the window frames) while making everything feel completely modern. The bathrooms are honestly gorgeous – marble that doesn’t look fake, and rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed in Italian hotels before, you know that’s not always a given. The kitchenettes aren’t just for show either; there’s a proper grocery store just around the corner on Via dell’Indipendenza if you want to grab fresh pasta or that incredible mortadella they do here.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really tell you – you’re in this sweet spot where Via Marsala connects you to everything without being on one of those touristy streets where you can’t escape the crowds. Walk ten minutes toward the city center and you hit all the main piazzas, but honestly, some of my favorite discoveries were in the immediate neighborhood. There’s this little osteria two blocks over that locals actually go to, and the morning market energy around here is fantastic without being overwhelming. The 8.8 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed a night or two – it’s not flashy luxury, but everything just works really well. The staff genuinely seems to care about the place, check-in was smooth even when I arrived late, and they had solid recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. The only minor thing I’d mention is that if you’re a super light sleeper, request a room facing the interior courtyard rather than the street – Via Marsala isn’t loud, but you do get some early morning delivery trucks. Overall though, this is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re living in Bologna rather than just passing through, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want in a city like this.

Reviews of Residenza Ariosto by Studio Vita

  • Lovely stay for group of four – Lisa from United Kingdom – 12 July 2025 (9/10)

Location. Very secure. Rooms were spacious. Quite area. Close to shops and restaurants. Great air conditioning. Hosts were brilliant, organised a taxi for us to the airport. Check in was really easy.

What could be improved: No lift. Shower head wouldn’t stay up. Shower was small. Toilet exceptionally close to shower. Beds very hard, a mattress topper would help. TV in front room was really small.

  • Perfect location in the heart of Bologna – Helen from Australia – 30 May 2025 (9/10)

Our two nights at Studio Vita apartments were great. We collected the keys from the hosts who are located across the road from the apartments. Very easy to access. Just press the buzzer to Studio Vita and you will be let into the door, walk along a short hallway and there you will find their office, where they check you in, take payment and give you the keys with instructions as to which key works in which door. Daniel and his colleague were very pleasant and helpful with instructions.

The apartment had three keys – one for the main apartment block, one for the door the the Studio Vita apartments on the first floor (there were 5 apartments on this floor) and then one large key which is specifically for your apartment (we were Apartment #5). A little tricky at first, but once you have mastered the large key it is fine. It is a very secure door which was reassuring.

The apartment was very clean and tidy, with separate bathroom (with washing machine, bidet, toilet and shower), extra towels, kitchen with table and chairs, well equipped and separate bedroom which was large and comfortable. TV was located in the bedroom.

The location is also perfect to access the city centre. We did a walking tour and the meeting point was around 7 mins walk from the apartment. They are currently constructing a new tram line system right along the main shopping street but we could still move around quite well. We were also very close to a local iconic restaurant, Donatello, fourth generation family who own it and the cuisine is very authentic. The tiramisu was outstanding!

I would highly recommend the apartments.

What could be improved: The street is narrow and so there is a little street noise at night but nothing too bad and you could always close the windows if needed. There is also air conditioning if you need in the mid-summer heat.

  • No – Venceslao from Australia – 29 May 2025 (8/10)

    Spacious

What could be improved: Photos in Booking.com highly enhanced which made the property brighter than it really was.
On the other hand the location, security and helpful Staff made up for any deficiencies. Would book again.

  • Lovely long weekend in Bologna with a great accommodation location. – Päivi from Finland – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

Excellent location, walking distance everywhere. Clean one-room apartment perfect for 2 persons, right next to the reseption of Studio Vita, which made it easy to leave luggage for storing before check in and also after check-out.

What could be improved: All sounds can be heard from next door apartments.

  • Great value and location – Mustangau from Australia – 29 April 2025 (9/10)

The apartment was quiet which was good after a long day of travel. It was located in close distance to a number of good restaurants too.

What could be improved: I can't think of anythong we didn't like, I'd stay here again.

  • Great place, good location – Joanne from United Kingdom – 19 April 2025 (10/10)

Good location, very big room lots of light. Only there for one night but very good facilities for longer stay if needed. Helpful staff and easy check in and check out. Good directions from train station.

  • 10/10 for a family – Jennifer from Spain – 16 April 2025 (10/10)

The location was elite! Only 5-10 minutes walking distance from all the main attractions and great restaurants and supermarkets nearby. It was quite spacious for my family of 4, and most of all, comfortable and clean. Not to mention, the price was pretty quite good. The service was amazing. Their reception was right in front, and even though i didn't need their help, they did offer 24/7 service availability.

  • Exceptional – Conny from Ireland – 10 April 2025 (10/10)

Super nice apartment, very well equipped, quite and clean. Location was perfect and staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back here. Highly recommend!

  • Superb – Tuğba from Turkey – 23 March 2025 (9/10)

    Generally, it’s comfortable. Good location.

What could be improved: There was no sharp knife. Kitchen equipment needs improvement
