Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Portanova Luxury Home,” I was expecting some sterile boutique property with marble everywhere and staff who wouldn’t crack a smile. But walking up to this place on Via de’ Gombruti (which, by the way, is this lovely quiet street in Saragozza that most tourists never stumble across), I realized I’d gotten it completely wrong.

The thing about staying here is that it actually feels like you’re crashing at someone’s beautifully renovated Italian home rather than checking into a hotel. The Saragozza neighborhood is honestly one of Bologna’s best-kept secrets – you’re close enough to walk to the historic center in about fifteen minutes, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with crowds of study abroad students stumbling past your window at 2 AM. There’s this fantastic little osteria around the corner that locals pack into every night, and the morning sounds are just… well, they’re what you’d hope for in Italy. Church bells, the occasional Vespa, someone’s nonna calling down from a balcony. You know what I mean.

The property itself has this warm, lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake. The rooms feel spacious without being cavernous, and whoever designed this place understood that luxury doesn’t have to mean intimidating. I mean, the bed was ridiculously comfortable – I’m talking about that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough – and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showers that actually works properly (trust me, not always a given in Italian hotels). What really got me though was the attention to small details. Fresh flowers that were clearly chosen by someone with actual taste, not just grabbed from a hotel supply catalog. Coffee that didn’t taste like it came from a machine that’s been brewing the same blend since 1987. Little touches that made it clear someone actually cares about this place.

The staff here strikes that perfect balance between helpful and not hovering – they’ll give you fantastic recommendations if you ask, but they’re not constantly checking if you need anything. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area (honestly, it’s Bologna, so that’s pretty much everywhere), but they’ll sort you out with options nearby. The 8.9 rating makes complete sense to me – it’s the kind of place where everything works the way it should, the location gives you that authentic Bologna experience without sacrificing comfort, and you leave feeling like you actually stayed somewhere special rather than just… functional. If you’re looking for a place that feels genuinely Italian but doesn’t make you rough it, this is your spot.

  Es exactamente el alojamiento que muestran las fotos. Céntrico, bien amueblado y muy limpio. Toallas muy correctas y para todos y amenities de calidad. Se esforzaron en todo momento porque estuviéramos agusto. El chico que nos recibió a la una de la mañana fue súper amable y atento. Buena calefacción que ayuda a sobrellevar el frío de Bolonia

  Didn’t like being told use own phone to ring for a taxi had difficulty with language but then another member of staff helped. He was kinder . I understand that you must leave and put cases elsewhere but the last thing I remember after a nice stay was because no help wax offered such a shame luckily one member stepped in after my problems with language.

  Tutto perfetto. A pochissimi metri da piazza maggiore, ci sono tanti ber molto carini sotto casa, la notte si dorme benissimo perché non passano le auto. Appartamento moderno con due grandi bagni. Devo dire tutto molto bene. Grazie allo staff.

  Casa molto bella, sicuramente torneremo il prossimo anno. Posizione bellissima, silenziosa, e comodissima. La casa è davvero bella, due bagni molto grandi comodissimi per chi è in gruppo. Consiglio!!

  What could be improved: It was freezing cold and the landlord refused to increase the temperature above 21degrees (this is in December)
  
  We were 4 people and there was not enough toilet paper in the apartment. When I let them know, they also refused to supply something so basic like toilet paper .. I don't find this normal and hospitable. Also the bathroom was dirty when we arrived.
  
  Our invoice had to be issued when we leave the place but that didn't happen. I had to write to the owners of the apartment for my invoice like 3-4 days in a row to receive it, at the meantime I was left on seen.
  
  Definitely not worth the money, we are so disappointed. My advice is to book everywhere else on Bologna but not this apartment!
