You know what caught me off guard about Portanova Loft? The name makes it sound like some trendy converted warehouse, but when you actually find it on Via Porta Nova – and honestly, the street numbers can be a bit tricky in this part of Saragozza – it’s this beautifully restored building that feels way more intimate than you’d expect. I mean, Bologna’s got plenty of boutique spots, but this one sits in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to the university area to feel the city’s energy without dealing with the constant foot traffic of the main center.

The whole Saragozza district thing is pretty genius, actually. Most tourists stick to the obvious spots near Piazza Maggiore, but staying here puts you about a fifteen-minute walk from all that chaos while landing you in what feels like a proper neighborhood. There’s this little morning ritual I noticed – locals grabbing coffee at the bar around the corner, students heading to classes, and you sort of become part of it without even trying. The building itself has that restored historical vibe (Bologna does this really well), where they’ve kept the character but added modern touches that actually work. The rooms – well, they call them lofts for a reason. Higher ceilings than your typical hotel, and the windows are generous enough that you wake up with actual daylight, not that dim hotel room gloom.

What really sells it for me is how they’ve handled the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Check-in was straightforward, the staff knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward the good aperitivo spots (not just the tourist traps), and there’s this refreshing lack of pretension despite the 4-star rating. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you stay there – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but everything works the way it should. Parking can be a bit of a dance in this part of town, but they’ll sort you out with options nearby. The noise level is surprisingly manageable too, considering you’re in the middle of a living, breathing neighborhood rather than some sterile hotel district. I’d say if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re actually in Bologna rather than just visiting it, and you don’t need a concierge in a uniform to validate your travel choices, this hits the mark pretty well.

  Ich habe 10 Tage im Loft verbracht und es ist einfach großartig. Sehr individuell gestaltet und definitiv sollte man gut zu Fuß sein. Es ist ein Dachgeschoss und man sollte auch beweglich sein, da manche Türstöcke sehr tief sind und man sich bücken muss. Aber in Summe, auch mit der kleinen Terrasse und der Lage einfach sensationell. In der selben Gasse ist eine kleine Bodega, Bottega PortaNova und das macht das "Zuhause Feeling" einfach perfekt. Man trink dort abends noch ein Glas Wein, plaudert mit dem Wirt und dann geht man noch oben, in sein temporären Zuhause. Besser geht es nicht 🤩

  L’amabilité du personnel. Les communications se faisaient très bien et de façon ponctuelle. Lorsque nous avons manqué de quelque chose, on a été très rapide à nous aider. L’emplacement était très bien et l’appartement très propre.
  
  What could be improved: Manque de rangement surtout dans la salle de bain. Aucun crochet ou porte-serviettes pour les serviettes et pourtant, il y a l’espace. L’équipement de cuisine était très de base. Il faudrait avertir dans la publicité que cet appartement est sous les combles. Mon mari étant très grand, s’est frappé à plusieurs reprises. Beaucoup d’escaliers à gravir ce qui n’est pas évident quand on voyage avec de grandes valises.

  Great location for exploring the city centre, although we didn’t feel we were in a very touristy area. Several coffee shops at the building entrance and several restaurants close by, so very convenient. The apartment was very spacious and very clean. We had a super comfy bed and the apartment was set at a very comfortable temperature.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment is on the third floor up a spiral staircase, a couple of the doorways were only chest height, and there were several changes of floor level in the apartment. Given this it wouldn’t be suitable for less able travellers. The water pressure wasn’t great so the shower was a bit temperamental. We were told there was a welcome pack in the room with local amenities but we never found it, however Ilaria, who let us into the apartment, did point us in the direction of a couple of restaurants. The sofa in front of the tv wasn’t very comfortable after a long day’s exploring.

  Otroligt mysig lägenhet, väl utrustad med allt man behöver (inklusive kaffemaskin och hårtork) och framför allt perfekt läge med gångavstånd till allt man vill se i stan. Personalen var också supertrevliga och behjälpliga.

  De locatie was fantastisch. Midden in het centrum. De ruimte is groot en netjes. Om de hoek koffietentjes en een bakkerij. Dichtbij een busstation. Alles binnen handbereik. De verhuurder is goed bereikbaar.
  
  What could be improved: De waterstraal is niet zo groot. En er zijn teveel licht knopjes aanwezig. Als je lang bent moet je zorgen dat je regelmatig bukt.
