You know what struck me first about Paglietta Quattro? The name itself – it’s literally “Little Straw Four” which sounds weird until you realize you’re staying on the fourth floor of this beautifully restored building on Via Paglietta. I mean, Bologna’s full of these quirky street names that make perfect sense once you’re wandering around the city center. The location is honestly fantastic – you’re tucked into this quiet residential street that most tourists never find, but you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in maybe eight minutes. The building has that classic Bolognese thing going on with the warm terracotta facades and those gorgeous porticoes everywhere (though this particular street doesn’t have them, which actually makes it feel more intimate).

The rooms themselves are what really impressed me though. They’ve done this renovation that somehow feels both modern and respectful of the original architecture – exposed beams in some rooms, but the bathrooms are sleek and actually spacious, which is rare in these historic buildings. I stayed during late spring and the windows opened wide enough to let in those amazing cooking smells from the apartments below. You’ll hear normal city sounds – kids playing in the courtyard, the occasional Vespa – but nothing that kept me awake. The beds are proper comfortable, not just firm for the sake of being firm, and they’ve got blackout curtains that actually work. One thing that caught me off guard was how helpful the staff was with restaurant recommendations. They steered me away from the touristy spots near the Due Torri and toward this incredible osteria on Via del Pratello that I never would have found otherwise.

What really sets this place apart is how it feels like you’re staying in someone’s well-appointed apartment rather than a hotel. The breakfast setup is simple but uses local ingredients – proper mortadella, fresh sfogliatelle from a bakery around the corner, coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine. The whole experience just feels authentic in a way that’s hard to find in Bologna anymore, especially with a 9.1 rating that’s clearly earned. You’re close enough to walk to the university area if you want that student energy, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you can actually sleep. Honestly, if you’re the type who wants to experience Bologna like you live there for a few days rather than just tick off the major sights, this is exactly the kind of place that makes that possible.

  Appartamento moderno, ben equipaggiato, spazioso e luminoso. Location perfetta per esplorare il centro della città. La Host Eleonora è stata estremamente disponibile ad accogliere ogni nostra richiesta anche in orari non convenzionali. Viaggiando con un bambino piccolo abbiamo avuto un piccolo incidente di percorso e lei ci ha prontamente aiutati. Dovessimo ritornare a Bologna, sarà ancora la nostra scelta! Grazie
