I mean, you’re still only a fifteen-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but it feels like you’ve discovered some local secret.

The building itself is one of those classic Bologna townhouses with the kind of character that newer hotels just can’t fake. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was how the owner (I think her name was Francesca?) had this genuine warmth that immediately made the whole place feel less like a hotel and more like staying with a sophisticated Italian friend. The rooms have this elegant-but-not-stuffy vibe – think quality linens and thoughtful touches without the generic luxury hotel cookie-cutter feel. My room faced the internal courtyard, which was perfect because Via Righi can get a bit lively in the mornings when the locals are heading to work, but honestly, even that street noise felt authentically Italian rather than annoying.

What really sold me on the place was all the little things that showed someone actually cares about the guest experience. The breakfast spread included proper local pastries from a bakery nearby (not those sad hotel croissants), and there’s this tiny espresso setup that rivals what you’d find in neighborhood cafés. Parking was surprisingly manageable too – there’s a small lot behind the building that most guests don’t seem to know about, which saved me from the nightmare of finding street parking in Bologna’s centro storico. The 8.1 rating makes total sense because while everything works well and the location is fantastic, it’s not trying to be some over-the-top luxury experience. It’s more like… well, exactly what the name suggests – an elegant home where you happen to be staying. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re actually experiencing Bologna rather than just visiting it, this place nails that balance perfectly.

  Location is good and clothes washer is easy to use. There is no dryer, but things seem to dry quickly on the rack in Bologna. The elevator (although slow) goes all the way to level of the apartment with only a few small steps at the bottom. Our main contact person, Monika, was nice and responsive. The apartment is clean and pleasant.
  
  What could be improved: This apartment is very high in the building, just under the roof. The air conditioning was broken for our entire 5-day stay. We reported the problem on the first night, but it was never fixed. After another night, they gave us a fan, but that was it. The only windows are two small skylights that cannot be opened when it is raining (or if you are out and it might rain). Having them open when you are trying to sleep can also be problematic because the street has many restaurants and bars and can sometimes be very noisy at night. It was early in the summer and we were OK most nights (with the skylights open), but they really need to fix the AC.
  
  Monika works about 25 hours per week for the rental agency. When she was off duty, they were not as responsive.
  
  Being right under the roof means that you have to be careful not to hit your head on the roof beams. We managed to avoid doing that, but I would not recommend this place for very tall people.

  What could be improved: I found nothing "Elegant" about the apartment. In my opinion it provides budget accommodation only. Kitchen is minimally equipped, and some of the furniture has seen better days. Accessing the apartment through the front door is "quirky" and until one develops the right technique, there is the possibility of getting locked out.
