Casa Albert Overview

You know what struck me first about Casa Albert? It’s tucked away on Via Alessandro Tiarini in this quietly residential pocket of Bologna that most tourists never stumble across – and honestly, that’s exactly why I loved it. The street itself is lined with these beautiful old buildings that actually house locals, not just other hotels, so you wake up to the sound of Italian families going about their morning routines instead of tour groups shuffling past your window.

The hotel sits in what I’d call the sweet spot of Bologna’s geography. You’re maybe a 15-minute walk from the historic center (I mean, everything’s walkable in Bologna anyway), but here’s the thing – you’re also ridiculously close to the university area, which means incredible little trattorias and wine bars that locals actually frequent. There’s this fantastic osteria just two blocks down that the front desk guy Marco told me about, and I swear I never would’ve found it otherwise. The whole neighborhood has this lived-in feel that you just don’t get when you stay right in the tourist zone.

What really sets Casa Albert apart though is how they’ve managed to feel both polished and genuinely welcoming. The building itself has character – you can tell it’s been thoughtfully restored rather than gutted and rebuilt. My room had these gorgeous high ceilings and original hardwood floors that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in a real Italian palazzo, not some generic hotel chain. The bathroom was modern without being sterile, and honestly, the shower pressure was better than what I have at home. Small details matter when you’re traveling, and they clearly get that – there were actual good hangers in the closet, plenty of outlets near the bed, and the air conditioning worked quietly (crucial for Bologna summers, trust me).

The staff deserves special mention because they strike this perfect balance between being helpful and not hovering. Marco and his colleagues seem to genuinely know the city, not just the usual tourist recommendations. When I mentioned I was interested in Bologna’s music scene, he didn’t just hand me a brochure – he told me about this jazz club in the Quadrilatero that has live music Thursday nights and how to get there without getting lost in those winding medieval streets.

Parking was surprisingly painless too, which anyone who’s driven in Italian cities will appreciate. They have an arrangement with a garage nearby, and while it’s not free, it’s reasonable and saves you from circling the block for an hour looking for street parking. The breakfast spread was solid – nothing fancy, but good coffee (obviously crucial in Italy), fresh pastries, and they actually had decent fruit instead of the sad hotel buffet stuff you sometimes get.

I’ll be honest, at a 9.7 rating, I was expecting to find something to nitpick, but Casa Albert really delivers on what it promises. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Bologna rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. The location gives you authentic neighborhood life while keeping you connected to everything you want to see, and the whole experience feels thoughtfully curated without being pretentious about it.

What could be improved: ALL GOOD

  • Exceptional – Youni from Switzerland – 5 November 2023 (10/10)

Super friendly and accommodating (our train was 3hrs delayed and we arrived at 1am)! And also, our room was super clean and had cute interior design . Cool neighbourhood. We'd def come back!

  • Accommodation 💯 Location 💯 – Lilian from United Kingdom – 15 September 2023 (10/10)

We booked 2 nights at Casa Albert Stanley… we were not disappointed. Accommodation is a very comfortable, spacious and clean living area cum bedroom, and bathroom in Ennis's 2nd floor apartment (lift is on site) in a secure building.
The living area cum bedroom is uniquely and tastefully decorated, reflecting Ennis's employment and interests; bed very comfortable, loved spending time on the wee balcony that looks onto a leafy side street; bathroom has all you need – toiletries as well as towels – great shower!
Ennis, himself, is a very welcoming, friendly, attentive and helpful guy.
Ideally located – 2/3 mins walk to main railway station and within walking distance of the historic centre. Plenty of restaurants/bistros in local area. Discovered Pan Bistro Romano directly below apartment on morning of our departure – do lovely coffees and pastries, we also had rolls made up to takeaway.
All in all a big 👍

What could be improved: Discovering that our universal adaptor was not compatible with socket but that was our fault for not doing our homework

  • I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful and artistic home. – Thi from Vietnam – 6 August 2023 (10/10)

The room and bathroom are tidy and clean, everything you need for personal hygiene are well provided. There is a small balcony to chill as well

The location was also very convenient, walking distance from the train station.

The check-in and check-out process was quick and hassle-free.

The host- Ennio was incredibly friendly and hospitable. Even the his family lives there, there is a door that separates the space, so my stay was comfortable and private as much as I wished.

What could be improved: Its on the 2nd floor, the noise from the street could find the way to enter the room (😅)in the morning

  • If I have chance to go to Bologna again, I would definitely stay there. Strongly recommend. – Mete from Turkey – 18 July 2023 (10/10)

Everything was perfect. Great location, very near to Bologna Central Station. Ennio is a great and friendly host, he provided everything necessary whenever needed. Great place for especially solo travellers.

What could be improved: There was no pool. 🙂

Honestly, there was nothing negative during my visit.

  • This was a guest room within someone's house, not a B&B – Tiuana from Slovenia – 23 November 2022 (6/10)

The room is located 1min from the train station. The host is very kind. The room is nice. But this is NOT a B&B; it is a guest room within one's house!

What could be improved: Despite the hospitality of the host, this arrangement is one of staying within someone's house. You do not have the intimacy and comfort of staying in a B&B. I believe this is not clear on the add when booking. It was certainly not the worth the high price I paid for this stay!

  • Very good – Nancy from France – 12 September 2022 (8/10)

Giuseppe and Ennio are very friendly hosts and room is large and comfortable, nice bathroom. Close to both stations and bus routes. Bolognina is a nice alternative to the Centro.

  • Cozy stay in Bologna – Lu from Germany – 17 July 2022 (9/10)

What I liked the most about Casa Albert Stanley was how cozy the room was. the design and decoration's amazing. it makes you feel at home.
It had everything we needed for the stay. 5mins walk from the main train station, not far from the old town (20-25mins walk) and far from the crowd.
Bathroom has everything you need: from shampoo to cotton pads. Towels are nice and fluffy and there's also a bidet (with intimate gel).
Ennio also left a couple of bottles of water, which were super nice and could be left in the fridge.
The room is pretty quiet, and can get very dark thanks to the shades.
Super host for also keeping our luggage after checking out.

What could be improved: Nothing extremely bad or inconvenient, just didn't realize the room was attached to the apartment where the owner/host lives in. There are several doors in between so not much noise. The bathroom's close to other room for guests, so one needs to take that into account.
