You know what caught me off guard about the Mitico Hotel & Natural Spa? It’s tucked away on Via Ferrarese, which honestly isn’t the most charming street in Bologna at first glance – but that’s actually part of what makes this place work. You’re far enough from the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore to get some peace, but close enough that you can still walk to the historic center in about 15 minutes. Plus, you’re practically next door to the train station, which I didn’t realize would be so handy until I was dragging my suitcase around.

The whole “natural spa” thing isn’t just marketing fluff – they’ve really leaned into this earthy, wellness vibe throughout the property. The lobby has this warm, almost cave-like feeling with natural stone and soft lighting that immediately makes you want to slow down. I mean, after spending the day navigating Bologna’s narrow medieval streets (gorgeous but exhausting), walking into that space felt like a proper reset. The spa itself is surprisingly extensive for a 4-star place – I wasn’t expecting much, but the treatment rooms are beautifully designed and the Turkish bath actually made me forget I was in the middle of a city. The staff there really knows their stuff too, not just going through the motions.

What I really appreciated was how they handle the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Parking in Bologna is honestly a nightmare, but they’ve got a garage situation figured out that doesn’t cost a fortune. The rooms are solid – not Instagram-perfect, but comfortable with good blackout curtains (essential if you’re jet-lagged) and surprisingly quiet considering you’re on a fairly busy street. The breakfast spread is proper Italian with decent coffee and fresh pastries, though it gets pretty packed around 8:30 AM when the business travelers are heading out. Here’s the thing though – the neighborhood comes alive in the evenings when locals start filtering into the little osterie nearby. There’s this fantastic place called Osteria del Sole just a short walk away where you can bring your own food and they’ll serve you wine – very Bologna, very authentic. The hotel staff actually pointed me toward spots like that instead of the obvious tourist traps, which tells you something about how they think about hospitality. Sure, it’s not the fanciest place you’ll ever stay, but it gets the balance right between comfort and character without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

  The hotel is new, near the hotel is a bus station very useful, the breakfast is very good. I had just a little mention, I had a triple room and when we arrived the sofa did’t had bed sheets and pillows.

  This was a loverly Hotel in all ways, also the breakfast was fantastic, and we ate at the restaurant the 3 nights we where there and found it very good and reasonably priced. The front desk staff where also great.
  
  What could be improved: Only one thing and that was the air Conditioning. I like to sleep in cooler conditions but found the lowest the aircon would go down was 22 and my room was more like 26deg.

  The hotel is in the Fiera district just outside the city heart but easily accessible for motorists with excellent on-site parking. It is right next to a bus stop for bus 25 for a 15-minute journey to the city at a cost of 2E- 30c per trip. Buses are very regular.
  The hotel is relatively modern and clean, and our room was of generous size and well appointed. Maintained daily to a good standard.
  Staff at reception were very competent at English and went beyond expectations at all times. They gave us accurate advice re getting to Ferrari Museum at Maranello and when I had issues with my cell phone needing understanding of Italian. They were exceptional.
  Also, the front-of-house man at the restaurant was excellent.
  The breakfast choice was exceptional, and in the evening, we found the restaurant food to be of excellent quality at fair prices.
