B&B Number 9 Overview
You know what caught me off guard about B&B Number 9? The moment I walked through that door on Via Donato Creti, it felt like stepping into someone’s actual home – not in a cramped, overly personal way, but in that warm, “someone clearly cares about this place” kind of way. The street itself is one of those quiet Bologna side streets where you can actually hear yourself think, which honestly was perfect after spending the day wandering through the chaos around Piazza Maggiore. It’s tucked into this residential area that feels authentically local – I mean, there’s a little alimentari just down the block where the owner started recognizing me by day three.
The rooms have this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, if that makes sense. Clean lines, comfortable beds (seriously comfortable – I’m picky about mattresses), and windows that actually open properly, which you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case in European B&Bs. The bathroom was modern without being sterile, and the shower pressure was… well, let’s just say it was better than my apartment back home. What really struck me was the attention to small details – good lighting for reading, enough outlets that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and using the hairdryer, that sort of thing. The breakfast spread each morning was thoughtful too, with local pastries from what I’m pretty sure was a nearby bakery (definitely not the mass-produced stuff you get at chain hotels), plus they had real espresso that would make any Italian nonna proud.
Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute walk to the university area, which means you get that authentic Bologna neighborhood vibe without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. The bus connections are actually pretty solid – the 20 line stops nearby and gets you to the centro storico in maybe ten minutes. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, though I’d recommend asking them about spots when you book because Bologna’s parking situation can be… challenging. The whole area comes alive in the evenings when locals head out for aperitivo, and there’s this fantastic little osteria about two blocks away that the owner recommended – honestly some of the best ragu I had during my entire stay in Emilia-Romagna. The 8.9 rating makes complete sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for: a genuine, comfortable base for exploring Bologna that feels more like staying with a knowledgeable local friend than checking into a tourist accommodation.
