The name literally means “clouds for rent,” which sounds a bit pretentious until you actually step inside and realize they’re not kidding around. The whole place has this airy, almost floating quality with white linens and these massive windows that let in all this soft Bologna light. It’s the kind of 4-star place that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard, if that makes sense.

What really got me was how the owners – I’m pretty sure they’re a local family – actually seem to understand what travelers need. The rooms are spacious (rare for Italy, let’s be honest), and they’ve got this perfect balance of modern comfort without erasing all the character. The bathroom in my room had heated floors, which was a godsend during that chilly October visit. But here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize – you’re technically outside Bologna’s city center, but there’s a bus stop literally two minutes away that drops you right at Porta San Donato. I mean, you could walk into the historic center in about 25 minutes if you’re feeling ambitious, and it’s actually a pretty lovely stroll through some neighborhoods most tourists never see.

The area itself is genuinely residential – you’ll hear actual Italian families going about their daily routines, not just tourist chatter. There’s this little café around the corner where the barista remembered my cappuccino order after just two days, and a small grocery store that stays open surprisingly late. Parking was way easier than I expected (there’s street parking that doesn’t require a permit if you know where to look), and the whole vibe is just… calmer. The 9.3 rating isn’t inflated – the staff genuinely cares about details like making sure you have extra towels without asking, and the breakfast spread actually includes local pastries from a bakery down the street, not just generic hotel croissants. I slept better here than I had in months, partly because the beds are legitimately comfortable, but also because San Donato is quiet enough that you’re not dealing with late-night revelers or early morning traffic noise. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Bologna, not just visiting it.

  The apartment was clean and location was convenient to walk to the fair. Host was kind and friendly, also provided lots of white clean towels. Easy check in and out. The view from balcony was beautiful.
