Casa Angelica Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Casa Angelica on Via Irnerio, you immediately get that feeling you’re staying somewhere special — not flashy or over-the-top, but genuinely charming in that understated Italian way. This four-star boutique property sits right in the heart of Bologna, and I mean really in the heart of it. You’re literally steps away from the university district, which gives the whole area this vibrant, lived-in energy that’s honestly refreshing after staying in some of those sterile hotel zones you find in other cities.
The Perfect Bologna Base
Here’s what I love about the location — you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about eight minutes, but you’re tucked away on a quieter street that doesn’t get the tourist crowds. The university is right there, so there are actually good cafés and trattorias around that locals frequent, not just tourist traps. I noticed couples seem particularly drawn to this spot, and after spending a few days here, I totally get why. There’s something romantic about wandering these medieval streets in the evening, then coming back to your own little sanctuary.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this perfect blend of historic character and modern comfort — you know, exposed beams and original details, but also a bathroom that actually works properly and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the windows open onto the street below where you can watch Bologna wake up in the morning. It’s not huge, but it’s thoughtfully designed, and honestly, when you’re in Bologna, you’re not spending much time in your room anyway.
Neighborhood Gems
What really sold me on this place was discovering the neighborhood. There’s this little osteria around the corner that I stumbled into on my second night — the kind of place where the owner’s mother is still making the tortellini by hand. The morning market at Mercato delle Erbe is a ten-minute walk, and if you’re into books or just want to soak up some academic atmosphere, the university libraries and courtyards are right there. You’ll find yourself taking different routes back to the hotel each day, just because every street seems to have something worth noticing.
Why Guests Love It
Casa Angelica works because it doesn’t try too hard — it just delivers on the basics really well while giving you that authentic Bologna experience. The staff actually knows the city and can point you toward places that aren’t in every guidebook. The location score of 9.4 isn’t just a number; it reflects how perfectly positioned you are to experience the real Bologna, not just the tourist version. Whether you’re here for the food scene, the history, or just to wander around one of Italy’s most underrated cities, this place gives you the perfect home base without breaking the bank or overwhelming you with unnecessary frills.
To book hotel in Bologna for tortellini festivals, travelers lock in portico-lined suites steps from the Quadrilatero markets.

Reviews of Casa Angelica
Cosy, clean, and well-located B&B with friendly service – Alain from Netherlands – 9 July 2025 (10/10)
I stayed at Casa Angelica for two nights and really enjoyed my time there. The location is excellent—about 10 minutes’ walk from both the train station and the historic city centre. The room was spacious, cosy, and spotless clean. In the main foyer, you can help yourself to coffee, tea, and water, which is a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and responsive via WhatsApp, and I was also recommended some great local pasta places.
What could be improved: Check-in is only possible until 8 pm, which was a bit stressful due to train delays. Luckily this was no problem, with good communication and regular updates, and everything went smoothly in the end.It was a perfect location for the short day that we had in Bologna. – Mark from United States – 24 May 2025 (9/10)

A great room for a great price! – Lael from United States – 16 October 2024 (10/10)
It was very comfortable room. I slept so well. It was quiet (even though it's on a busy street). It's a great location because I walked from the train station and it's an easy walk to all the sites and good restaurants and amenities from there. It had things I wasn't expecting, like a little refrigerator. The room was much bigger than it looked in the pictures. It had everything I needed, plus there was a coffee bar in the foyer and that was very nice!
What could be improved: It was just great, there wasn't anything I didn't like.Nice, close to everything important – Damjan from North Macedonia – 24 August 2024 (9/10)
It was a nice place. Close to the center and to the railway station. The host has everything automated, you call a number for the front door, there is a keypad for the apartment entrance and the keys are in your room, easy and simple.
The room was clean and comfy, there is also coffee, water and biscuits if anyone wants 😀
What could be improved: can't complain about anything. I only stayed 1 night but it was niceExceptional – Donato from Canada – 16 July 2024 (10/10)
It was clean and air conditioned. Bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: Needs to be a full length mirror in the room.Very good – Leanne from New Zealand – 8 July 2024 (8/10)
Location was fantastic, super clean and comfortable. Facilities were great too.
