You know what caught me off guard about MONO Apartments Saragozza? The entrance is so understated you might actually walk past it – which, honestly, I kind of like. It’s tucked into this gorgeous stretch of Via Saragozza, and when I say gorgeous, I mean the kind of street where you find yourself slowing down just to admire the architecture. The whole area has this lived-in elegance that feels authentically Bolognese, not touristy at all.

The apartments themselves are sleek in that minimalist way that actually works – I mean, sometimes “modern” can feel cold, but these spaces strike that sweet spot between stylish and comfortable. The kitchenettes are properly equipped (thank god, because Bologna’s markets are incredible and you’ll want to cook), and the beds are surprisingly good quality. I was worried about noise since it’s a city center location, but Via Saragozza is more residential than you’d expect, so nights are pretty quiet. The whole setup feels more like staying in a friend’s well-designed apartment than a typical hotel, which is exactly what you want when you’re planning to spend more than a couple nights somewhere.

What really makes this place special is the location – and I don’t mean “convenient location” in some generic way. You’re literally a fifteen-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but you’re also right at the start of the portico walk up to San Luca, which locals will tell you is one of the most beautiful walks in the city (especially at sunset, if you’re into that sort of thing). The neighborhood has this perfect mix of everyday Bologna life and easy access to the historic center. There’s a fantastic little café called Caffè Saragozza just around the corner that does proper espresso, and you’ll find yourself stopping by the local alimentari – it’s that kind of area where you slip into a routine quickly. The staff at MONO gets this too; they’re helpful without being hovering, and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to point you toward the good stuff. Honestly, with an 8.8 rating, you’d expect it to be solid, but it’s those little touches that make it feel like more than just a place to sleep.

• Well located, comfortable enough apartment in Bologna – Ana from Portugal – 13 June 2025 (8/10)

  The apartment was generally big, clean and had everything we needed for our 3 day stay in Bologna. It was located within a 15 min walk to Piazza Maggiore, the "heart" of the city. The bed was comfortable, even though the pillows were a bit too hard for me.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment isn't very cosy, it's almost as if the owners left the decor only halfway done. Contrasting with the rest of the apartment, the bathroom is small and very narrow, making getting out of the shower (right "onto" the toilet) and drying oneself particularly annoying.

  Very comfortable and easy accessible (especially for baby stroller), 5-10 min walking from the old city center. The apartment was very clean, spacious and well equipped with everything you need from kitchen utensils, washing machine, iron, tv-s.
  
  What could be improved: The floor in the bathroom was laminate around the toilet, bidet and the sink, only in the shower area – tiles.

  The host was extremely nice, responsive, and helpful. The flat is amazing, it is on the ground floor which makes it super practical. Juices and sparkling wine were waiting for us in the fridge. 🙂 Everything is super clean, nice furniture, and all the appliances are in the kitchen. The beds are cosy and comfortable. We loved it and would return to the same apartment when we visit the beautiful Bologna again. Thanks for everything.

  The apartment was exceptionally clean and well equipped with towels, coffee maker, basic toiletries and sundries: more than many apartments provide. They also had up useful information sheet. The process to get the keys was simple enough. The sofa bed was as comfortable as a normal bed and really easy to take in and out. The decor is lovely and modern too. Reasonably priced so definitely recommend.
  
  What could be improved: The traditional floor is beautiful but cold in the winter so take some slippers! There was no kettle for tea so I used a pan to boil water. There was an extra throw in the main bedroom but could have done with some extra blankets for the kids. The heating is good and on, but I think the temperature is just due to the nature of the old building.

  What could be improved: Only small complaint was that it came up on a filter with parking but there wasn’t any. I think this should be adjusted.

  What could be improved: The main room was pretty toasty but the fan helped. The bathroom is through the bedroom so a bit awkward if you have anyone sleeping on the pullout couch in the living room.
