You know what caught me off guard about Casa Sofia? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Via Montello – that most tourists never stumble onto, but you’re actually just a few minutes’ walk from the heart of Bologna’s university district. I mean, the location is sort of perfect if you think about it. You get the authentic neighborhood feel (there’s this little alimentari across the street where the owner, Maria, will chat your ear off about local cheeses) but you’re close enough to everything that matters.

The building itself has that understated Italian elegance thing going on – not flashy, but you can tell someone put real thought into the restoration. The rooms are honestly bigger than I expected for a European city hotel, and they’ve got these gorgeous original hardwood floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a historic building without being annoying. What really impressed me was the attention to detail… like, the bathroom fixtures are actually modern and the water pressure is fantastic (trust me, this matters after a day of wandering Bologna’s porticoes). The beds are proper comfortable too – none of that rock-hard European mattress nonsense. I actually slept better here than I have at places twice the price.

Here’s the thing about staying in this part of Bologna – you’re away from the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore, but Via del Pratello with all its bars and restaurants is literally a ten-minute stroll. The hotel staff seems to get this too; they’ll point you toward the spots locals actually go to rather than the obvious tourist traps. During my stay, the front desk guy (I think his name was Marco?) told me about this incredible osteria hidden in an alley that I never would have found otherwise. The breakfast spread is solid – nothing fancy, but really good coffee and fresh pastries from a local bakery. One small thing: the street can get a bit lively on weekend nights since there are some student apartments nearby, but honestly, it’s part of the charm of staying in a real neighborhood. The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you factor in the genuine warmth of the service and how they’ve managed to create something that feels both polished and authentically Bolognese. If you’re the type who wants to experience a city rather than just visit it, Casa Sofia gets it right.

  Carino ed accogliente, dotato di tutto il necessario per un soggiorno spettacolare a Bologna. Ottima la pulizia e il parcheggio coperto e il giardino è unico. Torneremo sicuramente!

  casa in una zona molto vicina al centro di bologna, a due minuti in macchina dal parcheggio tanari (parcheggio incustodito gratuito da cui partono le linee dei bus per il centro). appartamento molto accogliente, appena entrati troviamo il divano letto, sulla destra il tavolo con la cucina molto attrezzata e ben fornita (lavastoviglie e forno). bagno pulito con wc, doccia, bidet e lavandino con a disposizione molti asciugamani. camera da letto che è il punto forte dell’appartamento, molto spaziosa con anche cabina armadio aperta. servizio che aggiunge punti all’alloggio è il parcheggio nel giardino che è grande e perfetto per cene estive sotto il portico.

  Very comfortable and big apartment with a garden. It was also very clean, even all shelves were clean.
  
  What could be improved: Communication with the host was very difficult, they didn’t answer to any emails, messages or calls till 3 days before arrival. Then finally they started to communicate via whatsapp. Communication overall wasn’t good, was slow to respond and we also had issue with the light in the apartment. We turned on a stove and a dishwasher and the light in the entire apartment went off. It means that the entrance gate would not open (it’s electric) and we were locked inside till the host figured out how to put lights back one (took around 1 hour). It’s a scary situation when you have a baby and you need to leave, but you are locked inside. Also washing machine has so much black mold, that we were really afraid to use it.

  The kitchen was fully equipped. The property has its own closed internal area and parking place. The apartment has a gas heating system; you can tune the temperature.
  
  The apartment location. 2.5 km from the city center. 30 minutes by foot. I am not sure is it good or bad: up to you. Or you can ride 5 stations by bus – from Saffi station to Markoni station. Busses: 19, 81, 23, 91. The ticker you can buy inside the bus. Or you can buy a city ticker for 10 rides, it is a cheaper. The city ticket you can buy at the bus station in the small office "Iqbal Network SNC – Money Transfer ed Internet Point". Do not neglect to buy a ticket, we were only three days, but once we faced with he control staff.
  
  What could be improved: The toilet and the shower are very small. The shower's small size provided some discomfort. And the shower curtain also was a bit unstable. So, in general, the quality of the shower was not so good: 3 of 5.

  Very cozy, clean and comfortable place. The owner was very kind and helpful. A big advantage is the private parking space. It is close to the center and there is public transport very close too.
