Plus, having a proper kitchen means you can hit the Mercato delle Erbe (just a quick walk away) and cook with actual Parmigiano-Reggiano instead of paying restaurant prices every meal.

What really gets me is how Matildeland seems to understand what travelers actually need. The Wi-Fi works – and I mean really works, not that spotty connection you get in most Italian accommodations. The bathroom has proper water pressure, which honestly feels like a miracle in these historic buildings. And the hosts clearly know their stuff; they’ll point you toward places like Osteria del Sole (where locals bring their own food to drink wine) rather than the tourist traps around Piazza Maggiore. The location means you’re walking distance from the university area, so there’s this great energy in the evenings – students spilling out of bars, impromptu concerts in the piazzas, that sort of thing. During the day, you can easily wander over to the Quadrilatero for shopping or just get lost in those endless porticoes (all 40 kilometers of them, as locals love to remind you). I actually found myself using the apartment as a base for day trips too – Bologna Centrale is maybe 15 minutes away, so you can hit Florence or Venice and still come back to somewhere that feels like home.   Excellent location in terms of proximity to the city center. Very clean and spacious. Equipped with kitchen and coffee maker.
  
  What could be improved: The check-in was a bit cumbersome, because no body was at the apartment and no internet until we were actually inside the room. Instructions were not very clear for non-Italian speakers. The rooms were divided by a wall with an opaque window, so if we had lights in one room, the other room was not dark enough to sleep. The street noise was audible, because the apartment faces the main street.
