Giardino dell’Apollonia fra 2 Torri e Sant’Orsola Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Giardino dell’Apollonia fra 2 Torri e Sant’Orsola? The name sounds impossibly fancy – honestly, I practiced saying it three times before checking in – but the place itself has this wonderful, lived-in elegance that doesn’t make you feel like you’re walking on eggshells. It’s tucked away on Via Sant’Apollonia, which is one of those narrow Bologna streets where you’ll hear the gentle clatter of bikes over cobblestones in the morning and the distant hum of university students heading to lectures. The location is actually perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the tourist chaos around Piazza Maggiore – I mean, you’re still close enough to walk there in about eight minutes, but you get to sleep without street performers serenading you at midnight.
The hotel itself feels like someone’s stylish aunt converted her historic palazzo into a boutique place (which, let’s be honest, probably isn’t far from the truth). The rooms have that particular Italian charm where modern comfort meets old-world character – think exposed beams and contemporary bathrooms that actually work properly. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to chat about the neighborhood rather than just rattling off tourist attractions. They pointed me toward this tiny osteria down the street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, that meal ended up being a highlight of my trip. The 8.1 rating makes sense because while everything works well and the location is fantastic, it’s not trying to be some over-the-top luxury experience – it’s just a really solid place to stay that feels authentically Bolognese.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night despite being so central. Bologna can be surprisingly lively after dark (all those students, you know), but this little pocket of Sant’Apollonia settles down nicely. The morning light filtering through the windows has that golden quality you only get in Italian cities, and there’s something about having your coffee while listening to the gentle sounds of the neighborhood waking up that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like a temporary local. If you’re someone who wants to experience Bologna’s daily rhythm rather than just check off the major sights, this place gets it right – you’re staying somewhere that feels connected to the city’s actual life, not just positioned for Instagram photos.

If you gona been in Bologna, stay there – Carlos from Switzerland – 19 June 2025 (10/10)
I’m enjoy the apartment, nice, so comfortable
What could be improved: Nothing to declareDisappointing – Carl from Sweden – 14 June 2025 (4/10)
Good and calm location. Nice patio.
What could be improved: Requirement to upload picture of passport on external website outside Booking to get the keys. Host did not pick up phone calls. Apartment was not cleaned from previous guest upon arrival, but was fixed after a few hours. Moldy smell inside apartment. Not possible to use apps on TV since it could not be connected to the wifi. Would not recommend.LOVED BOLOGNA GREAT TRAIN LINK TO VISIT FLORENCE – David from United Kingdom – 10 September 2024 (9/10)
GREAT LOCATION GOOD OUTSIDE SPACE
What could be improved: NO TOWELS PROVIDEDThis apartment had some nice features, but needed to be supplied with basics. – Lisa from United States – 23 May 2024 (7/10)
Nice patio off the main room — provided light an air to a downstairs, otherwise dark apartment.
What could be improved: This was listed as a B&B, but there were no breakfast supplies in the kitchen. No coffee, milk, etc. All other apartments and B&Bs we have stayed in have provided at least basic supplies. There was some leftover food in the cabinet, but not useful to us.
The towels were very thin — did not dry properly.
There was no clean sponge in the kitchen.Good location – Anna from Denmark – 12 May 2024 (7/10)
Nice terrace, good bed, good location walking distance to everything. Also great with self service checkin and checkout
What could be improved: Communication with the host a bit difficult as we were getting automatic answers, so we didn’t manage to arrange early checkin even though we asked for it and agreed to pay extra. The terrace table was dirty and nothing to wipe it with, also no sponges if you need to wash any dishes. Would have been nice nice if the apartment had some tea/coffee/ water when checking in.Passable – Merle from Belgium – 10 April 2024 (5/10)
Location was good. Quiet neighbourhood. Bit far from the train station if you want to make trips to other cities. Bed was good.
What could be improved: The apartment had a very dank smell that would not go away. At some places the plaster is coming off from the wall. The place wasn't explicitly dirty, but it definitely wasn't clean either. Most of the shelves were quite dusty and the carpet in the living room needs to be cleaned.
Bed and bathroom were good, but the bathroom sink is all but clogged. My husband wanted to shave but the sink took a really long time to drain. The couch, chairs and outside furniture were not very comfortable. We didn’t really enjoy the outside space since it was a bit unkempt.
The upstairs neighbour can be quite noisy very early in the morning on weekdays.
During our first night the electricity went out. This happened during the night while we were sleeping so it wasn't because of a grid overload or anything like that. I checked the manual and tried to solve it myself but wasn't able to, so I contacted the host. The host didn't pick up so we just went out into the city. Since he didn't call back we tried calling again. He told us to take a picture of the circuit breaker. So we had to go back to the place to take the picture. After that I went back into the city. When I got a reply he sent me the instructions again. I finally got it working myself. This is not something you want to be doing during your holiday. I'm paying to stay at the place during my vacation, I don't want to play tech support. Besides, if electrical issues are common enough to be part of the instruction manual, it might be time to contact an electrician and fix the problem.Good – Kristina from North Macedonia – 5 February 2024 (7/10)
Good location. Good appartment.
What could be improved: The host is very unkind.Exceptional – Alexandru from Romania – 14 May 2023 (10/10)
Excelent location. Lots of space, clean rooms, all the facilities with a fully usable kitchen, a spacious bathroom, a mini terrace, it was perfect.
Exceptional – Alina from Ukraine – 20 March 2023 (10/10)
