Cavalieri’s Grand Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Cavalieri’s Grand on Via dell’Indipendenza, you immediately get that “this is why I came to Italy” feeling. The building has this elegant, understated charm that doesn’t scream for attention but definitely commands it. I mean, the facade alone tells you this place has stories — it’s got that perfect balance of historic character and polished sophistication that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special in the heart of Bologna.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about staying right on Via dell’Indipendenza — you’re literally in the pulse of the city. This four-star hotel sits where everything happens, and I’m not just saying that because the location score is 9.3 (though honestly, that’s pretty impressive). You can walk to Piazza Maggiore in about five minutes, which means you’re steps away from the Basilica di San Petronio and all those incredible porticoes that Bologna is famous for. The couples who stay here absolutely love it, and you know what? I get it — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll through medieval streets after dinner without worrying about catching the last bus back to some distant hotel.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this lovely mix of classic Italian style and modern comfort that didn’t feel forced or overdone. The ceilings were high — you know, the kind that make you appreciate old European architecture — and the furnishings struck that sweet spot between elegant and actually livable. What I really appreciated was the attention to details like proper lighting for reading and windows that actually opened (something you don’t always get in city center hotels). The bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy, which honestly feels more authentic than some over-the-top marble situation.
Dining and Daily Rhythms
The hotel’s restaurant serves solid Italian fare, though I’ll be honest — with Bologna’s incredible food scene right outside your door, you’ll probably want to explore. That said, the breakfast spread is definitely worth getting up for, especially if you’re planning a day of wandering through the city’s famous markets. The staff seems to understand that travelers want recommendations, not just directions, and they’re genuinely helpful about pointing you toward the kind of local spots that make a trip memorable.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Cavalieri’s Grand apart is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful — no small feat in a bustling city center. You’re close enough to everything that matters, but the hotel itself provides a genuine retreat when you need to recharge. The combination of that prime location, thoughtful service, and rooms that actually feel like a home base rather than just a place to sleep makes this spot work for different types of travelers. Whether you’re here for the food, the history, or just to soak up that particular Italian energy that Bologna does so well, this hotel gives you a solid foundation for whatever kind of trip you’re planning.

Reviews of Cavalieri’s Grand
An adventure to say the least – Diedrich from United States – 21 April 2025 (7/10)
It was pretty, looks extremely clean. Came with towels, and complimentary slippers. Super cute, gorgeous bathroom.
What could be improved: The elevator and neighborhood was worrisome. The room is literally a room in a 3 bedroom tiny apartment.Good location – Maria from Malta – 26 February 2025 (7/10)
Very clean and close to center
What could be improved: The room was very good in sizeVery good – Fani from Greece – 23 November 2024 (8/10)
The location was good, but there was alot of noize all night.
The room was clean and the access easy
What could be improved: Tea was provoded but NO COFFEE!
The was noize during the nightGood – Vanessa from Australia – 3 October 2024 (7/10)
Centrally located, this property was good but a little aged. One window didn’t open at all. The other broke but they did respond immediately and had it fixed the next day.
What could be improved: This property can be noisy… there is a bar next door and the rubbish trucks/buses can be quite loud and early.Perfect location – Jana from Germany – 15 September 2024 (9/10)
Very centrally located and very clean! Self-check-in was uncomplicated, contact with the host was possible at any time. The host even sent us tips for our trip. All very nice! We were able to store our luggage before and after. The shower is very great!
Superb – Anthony from United Kingdom – 7 August 2024 (9/10)
The location and the instructions as to how to get in were good, as we arrived super late and the location isn't staffed (but it presented no problems). We took a taxi from the airport which only cost €22, so pretty cheap, it was really well laid out and the accommodation was huge.
What could be improved: The storage for left luggage was a little small, and the lift didn't work when we arrived but it was fixed by morning.Clean and comfortable, good location – Aleisha from Australia – 28 July 2024 (8/10)
Very good aircon and central convenient location
Extremely responsive hosts over WhatsApp, not an issue for me but note they aren’t physically present on site.
Clean and very comfortable
Free luggage storage (although note this is just in a hallway – I don’t think anything untoward would likely happen but note other guests have access to your bags)
What could be improved: The lock system was a bit challenging at times but made sense once you got used to it
I was only staying one night so it wasn’t an issue to me but the doors to each room didn’t seem to have external locks so I’m not sure how you lock them during the day while you are out. You can lock from the inside.Superb – Nikoletta from Greece – 2 July 2024 (9/10)
We really liked the location
It was very spaciousA great place to stay – Glyn from United Kingdom – 16 June 2024 (8/10)
The location was perfect for the city and train station. The apartment was clean and comfortable.
What could be improved: It took me a little time to find the building, as the title 'Grand Hotel' was rather misleading. A receptionist on site would have helped greatly.Splendid – Reynolds from United Kingdom – 7 June 2024 (8/10)
Warm, friendly staff.
Room clean and comfortable.
Superbly located.
What could be improved: The art was a bit random.
If you are going to have art on the walls it should have some rhyme and reason.
