Casa Diamanti Overview

You know what? I almost walked right past Casa Diamanti the first time I tried to find it. Vicolo Ranocchi is this narrow little side street that honestly feels more like a secret passage than an actual address – but that’s exactly what makes this place special. It’s tucked away in the heart of Bologna’s old town, literally a two-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but somehow it feels like you’ve discovered this hidden gem that most tourists never stumble across. The building itself is classic Bologna – all that gorgeous terracotta and medieval stonework that makes you feel like you’re living in a postcard, except actually comfortable.

The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of… I don’t know, sophisticated coziness? The lobby isn’t huge or flashy, but everything feels deliberately chosen and well-maintained. I mean, this is a proper 4-star place, and it shows in the details – the way the morning light hits those original brick archways, how the staff actually remembers your name after day one, the fact that the WiFi actually works everywhere (trust me, not a given in these old Italian buildings). My room had this perfect little balcony overlooking the courtyard, and honestly, having my morning espresso out there while listening to the neighborhood wake up became this whole ritual I looked forward to. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a thoughtfully renovated historic property – modern amenities that don’t try to compete with the original architecture, really good beds, and bathrooms that make sense (again, not always a guarantee in Italy).

What really sold me on this place, though, was the location knowledge you get from the staff. They’re not just handing you generic tourist maps – they’re telling you which osteria has the best tortellini en brodo (it’s the one on Via del Borgo di San Pietro, by the way), or that if you head down Via Zamboni in the evening, you’ll hit this perfect little stretch where all the university students hang out. Parking is… well, it’s Bologna, so it’s complicated, but they actually help you figure out the zona blu situation instead of just shrugging. The neighborhood itself gets beautifully quiet at night – you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main tourist drags that you can actually sleep. I’d honestly come back just to have that little corner of authentic Bologna to return to each evening, especially during the shoulder seasons when the city has this perfect energy but isn’t completely overrun.

Reviews of Casa Diamanti

  • Lovely stay in Bologna and great apartment, would recommend and return! – Tara from Ireland – 12 May 2025 (8/10)

Superb location, very central. Very spacious and well equipped apartment. Helpful guide on arrival and great service to be able to leave our bags in the office on our last day and very pleasant and helpful staff who assisted us in getting a taxi.

What could be improved: The stairwell area had an unpleasant smell and the streets below were very crowded and steps outside the apartment often had people sitting on them so it was a bit tricky to access the apt at times.

  • Świetna lokalizacja w samym centrum Bolonii ale głośno – Wojciech from Poland – 1 April 2025 (8/10)

  • Superb – Susana from France – 6 November 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: El sofá cama es incómodo.

  • OK, but I wouldn’t stay there again. – Catherine from United States – 23 September 2024 (6/10)

Location, although extremely noisy. Large rooms. Staff returned messages fairly promptly.

What could be improved: No explanation to use laundry, stove, microwave, how to open sofa bed. We could not cook at all. Also the front door lock was broken and it took 4 days to fix and several times we could not get into our building. This was a huge problem! Also, 3 nights in a row a man was passed out on our doorstep when we returned to apartment after dinner. The crowds in the street make it difficult to get to door. At first it’s fun, but after a week it gets very tiresome.

  • Great location, gorgeous city, a trip to remember – Kate from United Kingdom – 8 April 2024 (7/10)

The location was fantastic right in the middle of everything. All the main sights and experiences were maximum 10 minutes walk. The accommodation was really clean and we could see it is a work in progress so hats off to the owner. The lounge and dining rooms were great spaces although we didn't use them much as we were out experiencing all Bologna has to offer. The kitchen was well stocked and probably the space we spent most time in. Michelle was great he met us at the apartment earlier than the 15:00 check in and we really appreciated that.

What could be improved: I guess the central location could pose a challenge as it is a restaurant hub. We are not early bed goers so no problem, but I suspect anyone with littlies or early bed goers might struggle a bit. I suggest it might be worth making that clearer as a bad review on that basis would be unfair.
My only niggle was the mattress, there was a dip in it which sounds nit picking but it did affect my ability to sleep so I would recommend renewing it.

  • It is so noisy! The only quiet time is 02:30-05:45am – Suzanne from United Kingdom – 12 November 2023 (4/10)

Very easy check in process, the kitchen was well situated and the design of the place was aesthetically pleasing.
It is very central, right next to piazza maggiore but that comes with its own drawbacks as you will read in the next section.

What could be improved: The apartment is right over one of the busiest bar streets in Bologna. The bars don’t shut until 2am and there are always drinkers sat/standing and blocking the doorway to the apartment building.
I actually took a video of how noisy it was in the flat as no one could believe it if I didn’t show them. Then the bottles start being cleared and shops being set up at 6am everyday.
The flat is fine but it is in need of some maintenance and there is no comfy space to sit as the only sofa was being used as a sofa bed. The middle room is a bit of wasted space in this regard as some comfy furniture would make it a nice living space.
If this was in a quieter area then, with some maintenance and a living area, I think it would be worth the money but as it is we hardly got any sleep whilst we were away. Would not recommend.

  • Cool location & cool place – Ichizo from United States – 16 October 2023 (10/10)

It is located in heat of the town. There are so many restaurants and markets within steps. You can hear people talking in the apartment. My wife felt it was too nosy but I didn’t mind. It is one bed room extra big apartment and 2baths. It is so convenient to have 2 bathrooms. Sheets and towels are so clean.

What could be improved: Nothing I didn’t like.

  • Best location ever – Darwent from United Kingdom – 5 June 2023 (10/10)

Located in a perfect are of Bologna, right by fantastic restaurants and bars. The accommodation was spacious and two reception rooms and a kitchen mes t there was loads of space.

  • Exceptional – Cew from United States – 22 April 2023 (10/10)

The location was excellent. — easy walking distance to the main square, easy walking to food and resturants. I also loved pushing aside smokers and drinkers clustered on the doorstep as I went into "my apartment." Finally, with frescoes on the ceiling, I would lay back, stare at them, and really feel that I was in la Bella Italia. Perfect.

– Peter from Switzerland – 13 March 2023 (9/10)

Grosszügige Ausstattung. 2 Bäder / WC. Vorzüglich ausgestattete Küche. Sehr viel Platz! Super Lage!
    Perfekt organisierte Übergabe der Schlüssel.

What could be improved: Ohne Ohropax ist nicht an Schlaf zu denken.
