You know what struck me first about Marconi Dreams? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it’s got this dreamy, almost nostalgic vibe that feels perfectly Bologna. I mean, you’re literally on Via Guglielmo Marconi, which is one of those streets that locals use as a landmark when giving directions, and the hotel somehow captures that intersection of old-world charm and modern comfort that this city does so well.

The location is honestly brilliant if you know Bologna at all. You’re about a 15-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but here’s the thing – you’re positioned perfectly to avoid the tourist crowds while still being close enough to everything that matters. There’s this fantastic little osteria just two blocks down that I stumbled upon during my second night, and the hotel staff actually knew about it (which tells you they’re plugged into the real neighborhood, not just the guidebook spots). The area gets busy during weekday rush hours since it’s a main thoroughfare, but evenings are surprisingly peaceful. I was worried about street noise initially, but the rooms are well-insulated – I barely heard the traffic even with windows cracked open for that lovely Bologna evening air.

What really won me over was how the place feels authentically Bolognese without trying too hard. The lobby has these gorgeous terrazzo floors that remind you you’re in Italy, but the furniture is comfortable and modern, not some stuffy antique setup that looks pretty but feels like a museum. The staff – and this is crucial – actually live in the city and know their stuff. When I asked about getting to the covered markets early (before the crowds hit), the front desk guy gave me this detailed route that avoided the main tourist streams entirely. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t fake. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully designed” – good lighting for actually reading, proper outlets near the bed, and bathrooms that don’t require contortionist skills to use the shower. Small details, but they add up when you’re staying somewhere for more than just crashing after sightseeing.

The 8.9 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna, but it delivers on what matters most to travelers who want to experience the city rather than just pass through it. I’d definitely stay here again, especially during the shoulder seasons when Bologna shows its best side and places like this feel like your own little discovery rather than just another hotel booking.

  Superb apartment with a very good location. Short walk to everything!. Good beds. Lightproof jalousies outside the soundproof windows made us sleep like children. Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, large fridge, freezer and washing machine. Large bathroom with a perfect shower and sliding doors. During the week we had a couple of practical questions about the area and where to buy local products. Edigio answered all our questions at once.
  The day we left, Edigio offered us to store our luggage for free. And he met us 5 minutes walk from the apartment, where he has a storage. This was very convenient since our plane departed late evening.
  So – to sum up – Excellent.

  What could be improved: We could not connect to the wifi network. Perhaps operator error but we have not had a problem connecting to wifi in any other apartments where we stayed. Host offered to try to help but timing did not work out for that to happen. Just a minor issue as we could connect to internet via mobile phone service.
