HouSmart Nazario Sauro 15 Overview
So I stumbled across HouSmart Nazario Sauro 15 during one of those frantic last-minute booking sessions, and honestly? I’m kind of glad I did. The place sits right on Via Nazario Sauro – you know, that street that runs parallel to the old city walls – and when I say “sits,” I mean it’s literally on the primo piano (first floor for us Americans), which actually turned out to be perfect. No elevator anxiety, but high enough that you’re not dealing with street noise from the early morning delivery trucks that seem to rattle through Bologna’s narrow streets at ungodly hours.
The whole setup feels more like staying in someone’s really well-appointed apartment than a traditional hotel, which I mean… that’s basically what it is. The rooms have this modern-meets-historic Bologna vibe – clean lines and contemporary furniture, but you’ll catch glimpses of those gorgeous old ceiling details that remind you you’re in a building with actual history. What really got me was the attention to small stuff that matters when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The WiFi doesn’t mysteriously cut out every time you try to video call home, the shower pressure is legitimately good (not just “good for Europe”), and there’s enough counter space that you don’t have to play bathroom Tetris with your toiletries.
Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore – close enough that you can easily wander over for aperitivo without planning your whole evening around it, but far enough that you’re not drowning in tourist crowds the second you step outside. There’s this little osteria called Da Cesari just around the corner that locals actually go to, and honestly, being able to stumble back to your room after a proper Bolognese dinner without navigating the city center is… well, it’s kind of wonderful. The 7.7 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury amenities, but it nails the fundamentals really well. I had zero issues with check-in, the place was spotless, and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood when I asked for restaurant recommendations (always a good sign). You know what surprised me? How quiet it gets at night. For being in the city center, once the evening foot traffic dies down, it’s genuinely peaceful. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a home base rather than just somewhere to crash between sightseeing marathons, this works really well.

Reviews of HouSmart Nazario Sauro 15
Superb – Rinalda from Albania – 2 December 2024 (9/10)
The location. It was in the heart of the old town near everything, museums, buildings of interest, train and metro and bus stations, supermarkets and restaurants, shopping streets
What could be improved: The sofa bed was not too comfortable, but it was ok for 3 days stayReally nice – Tara from United Kingdom – 7 October 2023 (8/10)
Location was great
Apartment really nice
What could be improved: Shower needs re tiling and a bit mouldyGood – Jana from United Kingdom – 19 September 2023 (7/10)
The location was fabulous and there was air conditioning
What could be improved: Everything was a bit shabby – the furniture all seemed very cheap and damaged, the toilet seat was not attached to the toilet so it came off every time you sat down, the place didn’t seem very clean.Once we got settled in we enjoyed our stay very much. Apartment was quite comfortable – Victoria from United States – 14 September 2023 (9/10)
Gaining entrance to the apartment was difficult. We had flown all night from US to Rome, then train to Central Termini, the train to Bologna. We were very tired and could not find lockbox with the keys (too tired to even understand the video). Finally a guest at Biblio Rooms took pity on us and helped us get the keys and gain entrance. Also, the apartment needs an explanation of how to deal with the garbage… we did find the card to open regular garbage bin. I miss being met at a property, given information in person (garbage, washing machine instructions, etc)
Pleasant. – Dana from Romania – 28 June 2023 (10/10)
Excellent location: the apartment is near to the city center and it is reachable by foot from the main train station. The beds were comfortable and the apartment was clean at our arrival. The check-in was possible late in the evening. Clear instructions about how to get into the apartment.
What could be improved: No possibility for late check-out or for luggage deposit after check-out.Superb – Maree from Australia – 26 June 2023 (9/10)
Comfortable, clean and great location. I can't really think of anything I was unhappy about. All traveling needs catered for. Washing machine, iron, great cooking facilities. Fantastic scholarly book collection (in Italian). Everything was great.
What could be improved: Not much to be unhppy about here. I could've done with a larger stove top espresso maker – but that's a quibble.Good – Samantha from United States – 24 June 2023 (7/10)
Good air conditioning and clean. Fully stocked kitchen.
What could be improved: The toilet would not stop running while we were there. I would assume it has been fixed since thoughVery convenient for a short visit of 3-4 days – Arina from Romania – 27 January 2023 (9/10)
Location is great, near Bologna center and relatively close to the trains station (from where you have good connection to airport and other cities – Florence for example is 40 min by speed train). There are plenty of restaurants and bars in a close range.
There is a kitchen with mostly anything you need, where you can fix a breakfast and some quick snack, but you can also cook if you feel like it (though, I would not advise it, as this would feel the entire apartment with smell). It is probably destined to be rented for longer times, as it also has washing machine.
What could be improved: The bedroom has a common wall with the adjacent apartment's toilet and the neighbors tend to flush down the toilet at various hours at night. As well, there is a very close wine bar which is opened late so, the street is also noisy.
In the bedroom there is no TV as it is shown in the pictures on booking.com
It was relatively cold in the entire apartment (the weather was not particularly nice – much rain and a bit of snow) and we could not get the heating to increase the temperature over 21 C. Moreover, the only blanket offered was thin and no additional blanket was available.
You get the key in a box which is not easy to use, as the number on the rolls with which the combination is formed are worn out and shinny, so, if it is night or the light is too bright, you may have a problem opening it.
The tourist tax is not included in the price you pay on booking.com and you are asked to leave it in cash on the table upon self-checking-out.Superb – Luminita from Romania – 6 January 2023 (9/10)
Nice appartment, close to the City center. Very clean and spacious.
Great apartment in great location – Maria from United Kingdom – 26 September 2022 (9/10)
Very well equipped apartment with impressive modern kitchen. Great location but noisy at night as there is a cocktail bar right below. Overall great modern apartment
What could be improved: Noise at night but I guess it cannot be helped.
