Futura Overview

You know what struck me first about Hotel Futura? The name actually makes sense when you walk in – there’s this sleek, almost minimalist vibe that feels refreshingly modern for Bologna. It’s tucked away on Via Ghiare, which honestly took me a minute to find the first time (the street numbers aren’t super obvious), but once you’re there, you realize the location is pretty brilliant. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night.

The building itself has this interesting contrast going on – classic Bologna architecture on the outside, but inside they’ve done something really smart with the renovation. The lobby has these clean lines and good lighting that doesn’t feel sterile, if that makes sense. I mean, Italian hotels can sometimes go overboard with the marble and gold, but Futura keeps it sophisticated without being stuffy. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – comfortable beds (actually comfortable, not just expensive-looking), decent-sized bathrooms, and they’ve clearly invested in proper air conditioning, which you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting during those sweltering July weeks when Bologna turns into a brick oven.

What I really appreciated was the staff’s approach – they’re helpful without being overly eager, and most importantly, they know the city well enough to give you actual recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. The concierge pointed me toward this little osteria about three blocks away that I never would have found otherwise. Breakfast is solid too, though nothing revolutionary – good coffee (this is Italy, after all), fresh pastries, and they actually have proper eggs if you need something more substantial before wandering around all day. The whole operation feels well-run, which shows in little things like consistent housekeeping and a front desk that doesn’t make you wait around during check-in. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of Bologna – there’s a garage nearby but it’s not exactly cheap, so factor that in if you’re driving. Honestly though, once you’re here, you won’t need a car much since the train station is walkable and the historic center is right there. The 9.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

  Everything was 👌. Very warm welcome by the host and despite we did not meet each other we were in continuous communication on the chat. Very explanatory person who made our vacation start awesome 👌 I recommend the place with no doubts and will visit it again when traveling to nord Italy.

  Ettore was a great host and the room was so cute and spacious! Extremely clean and there were a variety of snacks, coffee, juice, yogurt, sparkling water, and even ingredients for cooking left for us in the kitchen and fridge 🙂 The location is a 2 minute walk from the bus stop, so we had no problem getting into town everyday. This is not the fault of Futura at all, just an FYI if you want to do public transport: If you are taking the bus in 2025, be aware that while going to town via bus in the mornings is very easy, getting back at night may be a little harder because they are constructing a new tram line in Bologna, so the routes are all mixed up. I would suggest taking a taxi or the train back in the evenings (the train stop is also 5 min walk from the house). Ettore was very responsive and helped us with everything we needed, and even gifted us some fresh mozzarella from his recent trip to Naples!

  This apartment was like a 5 star hotel room! Very clean and like new. Breakfast items with fresh juice, milk cereal and breads was quite nice. Wifi worked well. Owner was excellent in communicating numerous times with us that helped tremendously in routing us in a unfamiliar town from the train station and offering to help find a place to eat on Sunday which turned out just grand at CioVIP1. I can’t say enough about how engaging the owner was to ensure we had a great experience
  
  What could be improved: I had a little trouble finding the wifi and turning on the AC, maybe a note on the table would help. But I blame myself for that not the owner…

  This property was exactly what we were looking for. Close to the airport and an easy drive to get there after arriving in the evening. Very quiet neighborhood. We had a rental car and parking was no problem. The apartment is spotless, the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was a very nice size and the owner was easy to reach and very responsive.

  The location is located in a quiet place. It is close to public transport. Ettore and his wife were the perfect hosts (I have never met such hosts before). The information to check in was very clear and easy to unlock the key. Everyday Ettore write me to check how i feel with suggestions what to visit, about transportation. Everything was great

  Wonderful stay. Breakfast was provided with so much we did not finish. Awesome garden to chill in. Safe and secure with a great, spacious bathroom. Comfortable beds and great size for a quick stay. All you need for Bologna. The host was very friendly and helpful. It was great for us because we had an early flight the next day so less than 10min drive to the airport. We would book and stay here again. Thank you!

  Modern excellent location easy to reach by public transport from the city centre. It wasn’t missed that there where all the ingredients to make spaghetti bolognaise left for me so as I was on a Olof a I gave it a go. Some ingredients had to be foraged from the garden ie basil and chilli. A nice touch which made a fantastic nights stay all the better. You won’t find better accommodation in zBologna and I will be back next year. Thank you
