Maison Marconi Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Bologna hotels, and Maison Marconi honestly surprised me. The moment you walk up Via Marconi – which, by the way, is this lovely tree-lined street that feels way more residential than touristy – you get the sense this place actually gets it. The building has that classic Bolognese elegance without trying too hard, you know? Stone facade, wrought iron details, but nothing flashy.
What really won me over was how they’ve managed to keep the soul of an old palazzo while making everything work for modern travelers. The lobby smells like leather and coffee (there’s an excellent espresso machine that actually rivals what you’d get at the bars on Via del Pratello), and the staff – well, they’re locals who seem genuinely happy to share their city with you. I mean, the concierge Marco literally drew me a hand-sketched map to avoid the tourist crowds around Piazza Maggiore and led me to this incredible tortellini place that doesn’t even have a sign. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake.
The rooms are what I’d call “quietly luxurious” – think rich fabrics, marble bathrooms with rainfall showers, and beds that are firm enough for Italians but soft enough for international guests. My room faced the courtyard, which was perfect because Bologna can get surprisingly noisy at night, especially when university students are out (and honestly, they’re always out). The AC actually works – not always a given in historic Italian buildings – and there’s enough space to properly unpack, which I appreciate after living out of a suitcase for weeks. One small thing that delighted me? They stock local Bolognese cookies alongside the usual minibar stuff.
The location is absolutely perfect if you understand Bologna’s rhythm. You’re a five-minute walk from the Quadrilatero market area where locals do their shopping, and maybe eight minutes from the Two Towers if you’re feeling touristy. But here’s what the travel guides don’t tell you – you’re also right near some of the best aperitivo spots in the city, and the morning walk to get proper cappuccino and cornetto becomes part of your daily routine. The nearby streets come alive around 7 PM when Bolognesi start their evening passeggiata, and there’s something magical about being part of that flow rather than watching it from some central hotel surrounded by tour groups.
Honestly, with an 8.8 rating, Maison Marconi is doing something right, and after three nights there, I get it. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bologna – it’s trying to be the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in the city rather than just visiting it. The housekeeping is impeccable, breakfast features local prosciutto di Parma and fresh sfogliatelle, and somehow they’ve created this atmosphere where international travelers and Italian business guests coexist without that weird hotel bubble feeling. If you’re the type who wants to experience Bologna like someone who actually lives there, this is your place.

Reviews of Maison Marconi
Totally recommended! – Giulia from Belgium – 8 February 2025 (9/10)
Very clean, very comfortable bed, host incredibly kind
What could be improved: On a bigger street and not the nicest buildingVery good – Brenda from Canada – 8 November 2024 (8/10)
The apartment is clean and modern. It’s in a good location, close to train station and city center. Paola was available to help when I had some issues with getting the keys. Kitchen is well equipped and the washing machine is a bonus
What could be improved: There is a busy street just below the bedroom window. I found the bed hard but the down duvet was lovely. Check in was all virtual and keys were in coded lock boxes. Seemed a little strange to not be met by the host. The smell coming out of the drains in the bathroom was very unpleasant.Perfect loacation and great value for money – Lauren from Ireland – 28 August 2024 (8/10)
Perfect location and great value for money. AC was so good in the apartment
What could be improved: All sockets in the apartment were specific to lights so generic European 2 pin adapters did not work. We had to purchase a special additional adapter to be able to charge phones/ use our appliances. Was a strange one as we were fine in all other locations in ItalyGood value for money – Raluca-elena from Romania – 17 June 2024 (9/10)
Comfortable and clean apartment, with nice facilities, in the center of Bologna. We appreciated the good and prompt communication with the owners.
What could be improved: We only encountered a problem with the bathroom doorknob so we couldn’t properly close the door. Will definitely recommend the place – Audrey from Malta – 15 May 2024 (9/10)
The apartment was clean and had everything needed. There was also a guide book that was very helpful. The location is also very good as you get to go around on foot and see all you need to see.
Exceptional – Helen from United Kingdom – 10 April 2024 (10/10)
The location was fantastic, really handy for both the station and city centre. Very comfortable flat with everything needed for a great stay. Really handy to have a supermarket below the flat too.
Very secure door entry system and front door.
What could be improved: NothingWe enjoyed our stay and would pick the apartment again if we return to Bologna – Thomas from Germany – 4 November 2023 (10/10)
Clean and modern apartment at great location. Its only a 10 minute walk to the main station Bologna Centrale or the Piazza Maggiore. We also liked the Nespresso coffee maker with complementary coffee pods and the charming elevator.
The host is helpful and place is comfortable ! – So from United Kingdom – 27 August 2023 (9/10)
Excellent location, close
To bus station. Walkable distance to all tourist attractions and train station.
Good A/C, which is super important in 39
Degrees Bologna
What could be improved: Can be better in providing coffee capsules. The drainage in the shower can be better and it cannot drain water effectively. I need to pull out the plug and clear all ages hair blockage myself . This is not too pleasant .very smooth from booking till departure. if ever return to bologna will rebook – Mark from Malta – 3 May 2023 (9/10)

Exceptional – Kelly from Greece – 9 March 2023 (10/10)
