You know what struck me first about Residenza Santo Stefano 95? It’s actually tucked right into one of Bologna’s most authentic neighborhoods – I mean, you’re literally living on Via Santo Stefano, which locals just call “the street that leads to the seven churches.” The building itself has that weathered elegance that only comes from centuries of Bolognese life, and honestly, stepping inside feels like you’ve been invited into someone’s carefully curated home rather than checking into a typical hotel.

The apartment setup is brilliant, actually – it’s got this lived-in sophistication that makes you want to linger over morning coffee instead of rushing out to tick off tourist boxes. The spaces breathe in a way that cramped hotel rooms never do, and there’s real attention to detail everywhere. I’m talking about proper lighting (not those harsh overhead bulbs that make everyone look terrible), comfortable seating that you’d actually choose to read in, and a kitchen that’s genuinely useful if you want to grab some mortadella from Tamburini down the street and make yourself a proper sandwich. The whole place has this warm, amber quality in the late afternoon – probably something to do with how the light hits those old windows.

What really sells it though is the location. You’re a three-minute walk from the Basilica di Santo Stefano complex, which means you can slip over there in the early morning before the tour groups arrive and have the place almost to yourself. The neighborhood has this perfect mix of local life and historical weight – you’ll hear church bells and the clatter of morning deliveries, but also the kind of easy conversation that happens when people actually live somewhere rather than just passing through. Plus, you’re close enough to the university area that there are proper restaurants nearby, not just tourist traps. I mean, Via del Pratello is right there with all its little osterie, and you can walk to Piazza Maggiore in maybe ten minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the gorgeous architecture along the way. The whole experience feels more like borrowing a friend’s place than staying in accommodation – and given Bologna’s reputation for hospitality, that’s exactly what you want.

  The location is perfect. Everything is nearby. The terrace is marvellous to sit in the evening with a glass of wine. Would highly recommend this apartment for staying in Bologna.

  Our host Andrea was very nice and very helpful. We had a small problem in the beginning that he resolved immediately. Great house with a nice terrace and toys for kids! Highly recommend! One of the best ice cream places is just in front 🙂

  We booked the apartment at the last minute and it was a great find. It is large and very convenient, and has a large terrace. The owner let us in, he was very friendly and very helpful when we needed some extra help.
