Borgo Pietralata Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Borgo Pietralata on Via Pietralata, you immediately get the sense that this place knows what it’s doing. It’s one of those four-star properties that doesn’t try too hard — the kind of hotel that feels both polished and genuinely welcoming. The building itself has this understated elegance that fits perfectly with Bologna‘s character, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you’re looking to actually experience the city rather than just pass through it.
The Saragozza Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in the Saragozza district — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that can make some parts of Bologna feel overwhelming. The neighborhood has this authentic residential feel where you’ll see locals going about their daily routines, which I mean, that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to get a real sense of a place. You can walk to the historic center in about fifteen minutes, but when you come back to the hotel in the evening, it actually feels like you’re retreating somewhere peaceful.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a well-run four-star property — thoughtfully designed without being fussy about it. The beds are genuinely comfortable (and I’m pretty picky about that), and there’s enough space to spread out your things without feeling cramped. What struck me most was the attention to details that actually matter — good lighting for reading, plenty of outlets where you need them, and windows that open properly so you can get some fresh air when you want it.
Getting Around
You know what’s great about this location? You don’t really need to worry about parking or navigating Bologna’s somewhat confusing driving situation because you can walk to most places you’ll want to visit. The university area is close by, the main shopping streets are totally walkable, and if you want to explore some of Bologna’s famous porticoes, you’re perfectly positioned. I actually found myself using the hotel as a base and just wandering different directions each day — sometimes toward the Two Towers, sometimes toward the Quadrilatero market area.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.9 rating really makes sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right without any drama. The staff seems to genuinely care about making sure you have what you need, and there’s something to be said for a hotel that couples consistently rate highly for romantic trips. It’s not trying to be the flashiest option in Bologna, but it delivers on the promise of a comfortable, well-located stay where you can focus on enjoying the city rather than dealing with hotel-related hassles. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

Reviews of Borgo Pietralata
Superb – Laura from France – 9 June 2025 (9/10)
The apartment was super nice and cosy, very well located in Bologna and a very good value for money. Marco was super nice and flexible. I highly recommend staying there when you visit Bologna!
Exceptional – Selena from Serbia – 8 February 2025 (10/10)
Check in is the easiest thing in the world, agree on how long you are coming and the key will be waiting for you and instructions before that.
We only have words of praise for the apartment, the owners thought of all the details, from two umbrellas to a bunch of towels of different sizes, the apartment is equipped so that you will not miss anything.
The main thing is certainly the location, which could not be better, a few minutes from the center.
The host Marco was super helpful.

Great location, clean and comfortable, easy access and a very kind attitude! It was a wonderful atmospheric place, in a vivid and lively area in Bologna!
What could be improved: It was a bit dark during the day, but at the same time – very cool compared to the heat outside.Great size for a couple, good location, not too far from the city center and amazing pizzeria right next door! – Anni from Netherlands – 3 June 2024 (9/10)
Good size for couple, and well situated!

Marco is an excellent host, extremely helpful and provided tips for the area we were in.
A comfortable stay in a great location – Wendy from Australia – 5 May 2024 (10/10)
The apartment was even more spacious than the pictures, exceptionally clean and very comfortable (including the beds – we all slept really well). Marco went out of his way to ensure our short stay went well including allowing us to check in a little earlier and providing recommendations for places to eat. His communication was excellent. We also loved the location, close to lots of good bars and restaurants and within easy walking distance to Piazza Maggiore.
