You know what struck me first about The Loft? It’s right there on Strada Maggiore, which honestly feels like discovering Bologna’s best-kept secret hiding in plain sight. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but somehow this stretch feels quieter – less touristy chaos, more authentic neighborhood vibe. The building itself has that perfect Bologna thing going on where medieval bones meet modern comfort, and they’ve actually pulled it off without making it feel like a museum piece.

The rooms are genuinely well-designed, not just Instagram-pretty but actually functional. I’m talking about proper lighting where you need it, outlets that make sense, and – this might sound silly but it matters – hangers that aren’t permanently attached to the closet rod. The bathrooms are small but smartly laid out, with decent water pressure (crucial after walking Bologna’s endless porticoes all day). What really got me was the attention to local touches – they’ve incorporated elements that feel distinctly Bolognese without being heavy-handed about it. The breakfast setup is solid too, though if you’re an early riser, you’ll want to hit it before 8:30 when the business travelers descend.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore on foot. Via del Pratello with its aperitivo spots is maybe ten minutes away, and you can easily walk to the university area or duck into those little osterie tucked behind San Petronio. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – ask them about the best place for tortellini and they’ll steer you away from the tourist traps near the towers. Parking can be tricky (it’s Bologna, after all), but they’ll sort you out with garage recommendations that won’t break the bank. I stayed during shoulder season and found the whole experience refreshingly low-key – professional service without the stuffiness you sometimes get at four-star places. The 9.1 rating makes total sense when you consider you’re getting genuine comfort and character in a city where mediocre hotels often coast on location alone.

  We had a wonderful stay at 'The Loft'. It was clean, comfortable, had everything we needed for our time there and we were happy with the location. The host was really helpful and gave lots of recommendations for our time in Bologna. Check-in was very straightforward and I would definitely stay there again for future visits to Italy.

  The location was perfect – very close to city central and plenty of places to eat, get groceries, etc along the walk. The apartment was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Especially loved the rain shower in the bathroom after long days of walking and sightseeing. Hosts were wonderful – very helpful with information, answering my questions and local recommendations.

  A beautiful, unique property with many original features located a 10 minute walk from the centre of Bologna. The hosts were very friendly and helped with restaurant recommendations and bookings. Would highly recommend and stay again when we visit Bologna.

  First of all, I want to talk about the location, because if you ask me, this is one of the most important and greatest things about our stay at the loft.
  I think that the location of the loft is so perfect because it is located at the beginning of the city center and because of that you can enjoy the superb streets and local shops that you can find at the outer side of the city center and still you could find yourself in the center of the city center in less than 15 minutes walk.
  Another great part of this location is that on the Sundays, in 3 minutes walk from the loft, you can find a great local farmers market, with the most tastiest salami and Italian products that I have ever tasted.
  The market is called Mercato del Novale, it is a must try if you are at the Loft in a Sunday morning.

  The place was clean, it had a great usable kitchen with fridge and all you need to prepare a small parmigiana and prosciutto breakfast. The bed was comfortable and the place had a digital thermostat that you could ask the host to set it remotely as you desire, so the place was cozy, with nice decoration and the hosts are very nice.
  
  What could be improved: I didn't like that it had 0 soundproof, you could hear the neighbors going up and down the elevator.
  The price was steep.
  And I didn't like the communication with the hosts, I was talking with 2 hosts on two different numbers, one was saying and asking us if we want breakfast or dinner in the loft, the other one was telling us that there is none of those offered by the loft. Please use just one phone number so you can track the conversation and don't promise things that you can not deliver.
  Not much dislikes, it was a great stay. I would surely come back if the price was better.
