The breakfast setup is intimate rather than institutional, which I honestly prefer to those overwhelming hotel buffets where half the croissants are stale anyway.

The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there, because it’s not trying to be something it’s not. Sure, you won’t find a spa or a rooftop pool, but you will find thoughtful touches like local area guides that go beyond the usual tourist traps, and staff who can actually give you directions to the covered markets without pulling out Google Maps. If I’m being completely honest, this isn’t the place for you if you need a concierge or room service, but if you want to feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated Bologna apartment rather than a generic hotel room, Casa Melo nails it. The mini house concept works because they’ve embraced it fully – everything is intentional and scaled just right. Plus, you’re perfectly positioned to explore the Saragozza area, which has this wonderful mix of local cafes, small shops, and residential streets that give you a real sense of what Bologna feels like when you’re not just passing through.
