You know what struck me first about MADE in Bologna? The location is actually perfect – not in that generic “convenient location” way hotels always claim, but genuinely smart. It’s right on Via Marconi, which honestly isn’t the most charming street in Bologna (let’s be real), but here’s the thing – you’re literally two minutes from Piazza Maggiore and all the medieval madness, yet you can actually sleep at night because you’re not directly in the tourist chaos. I mean, Bologna gets pretty lively, especially around the university area, so this positioning is kind of brilliant.

The hotel itself has this interesting industrial-chic thing going on that somehow works perfectly with Bologna’s red brick aesthetic. Walking in, you immediately get that this isn’t trying to be some fake historic palazzo – it’s contemporary and honest about it, which I actually appreciated. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star, but with thoughtful touches that show someone actually thought about how travelers live. The bathrooms have proper water pressure (trust me, this matters in Italy), and the beds are genuinely comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. What really got me was the breakfast setup – they source a lot locally, and you can tell. The coffee is proper Italian espresso, not that watery hotel stuff, and they had these incredible pastries from what I’m pretty sure was a local bakery.

Here’s what you should know practically: parking exists but it’s Bologna, so expect to pay for it. The train station is maybe a 10-minute walk, which is clutch if you’re doing day trips to Florence or Venice. The staff speaks solid English and actually knows the city – I asked about where to get the best tortellini (not at the touristy spots, obviously) and got genuinely helpful recommendations. The whole place feels like it’s run by people who understand that Bologna isn’t just a stopover between Rome and Milan – it’s actually worth staying in properly. With a 9.7 rating, you’d expect it to be one of those places that’s trying too hard, but honestly? It just does the basics really well and adds enough personality to make you remember it. If you’re the type who wants to experience Bologna like someone who actually lives there, rather than just ticking boxes, this place gets it.

  A beautiful apartment, perfectly hidden away in the centre of the city! Was spotless, Pierce has paid attention to every detail to ensure we had a wonderful stay. He warmly greeted us, shared info about local eateries and highlights in the city.

The owners were so helpful and responsive to questions I had and very flexible with helping us by storing our luggage before and after checkin/checkout.   What could be improved: THERE WAS NO KETTLE, THEY HAVE A COOL COFFE MACHINE THAT SUPOSE TO HEAT WATER FOR TEE AND STUFF, BUT IT DIDN´T WORK (GREAT COFFE THOUGH), SO GOOD OLD FASHION KETTLE WOULD BE NICE.

  Elisabetta was a lovely host! She let us leave our luggage early and text us when everything was ready. She even had a gift for us for our Honeymoon which was very kind. The location was right in the centre and in walking distance of everything. The apartment itself is an amazing size, plenty of room and everything we needed. The bed was comfy and the shower was excellent. Everything was very clean too.

  Very spacious, well furnished and equipped. Our host was very friendly and forwarded us some suggestions. Located a few minutes away from the historical center and only a short bus ride from/to the train station. Multiple bus options right in front of the apartment.
