You know what struck me first about MADE in BO? The name itself feels like Bologna – unpretentious but confident, sort of like how the city doesn’t need to shout about being amazing because it just is. This 4-star spot sits right on Via Cesare Boldrini, which honestly isn’t the most glamorous street name, but it’s actually perfect positioning. You’re literally a 5-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore, but tucked away enough that you won’t hear drunk university students singing at 2 AM (trust me, that’s a thing in Bologna).

The hotel has this contemporary design thing going on – I mean, it’s called MADE, so they’re clearly going for that modern aesthetic. What I really appreciated though was how they didn’t go overboard with the minimalist trend. The rooms actually feel warm, not like you’re sleeping in an art gallery. The staff genuinely knows their stuff about the city too, which is refreshing. When I asked about where to get the best tortellini (because obviously), the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a tourist brochure – he actually debated the merits of three different places with me. That’s how you know you’re dealing with locals, not just hospitality robots.

Location-wise, you’re golden here. Via dell’Indipendenza is right there, which means easy access to the train station if you’re day-tripping, but more importantly, you can walk to basically everything that matters. The porticoes – those covered walkways Bologna is famous for – they’re everywhere around here, so even when it’s raining (which it does, especially in spring), you can still wander around comfortably. I loved that you could grab morning coffee at one of those tiny bars where the locals go, then be at the university area in ten minutes if you want to feel young again. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it delivers on what matters: comfort, location, and staff who actually care about your experience. Plus, parking in Bologna is basically a nightmare everywhere, so don’t even worry about that – just embrace the walking life while you’re here.

  The B&B was located very close to the train and bus stations. Room was clean and comfortable. Host was very kind and always available to answer our queries by phone. He allowed us to keep our luggage as we had our train in the afternoon.

  Location great; clean, modern decor; bathroom facilities great; comfortable beds. The included breakfast was a bonus.
  
  What could be improved: No instructions on how to enter the property from outside- the buzzer didn’t work for us, but all ok once we got a key. Also no access code for the apartment was sent & we were lucky we arrived during the day when a caretaker was available to assist. Some travellers arrived at night & were upset when they couldn’t get in. Lucky we were entering at the same time & could help them. Nightmare for people in a new town without somewhere to sleep.
