Le Stanze dell’Edera Overview
So I stumbled across Le Stanze dell’Edera during one of those “let’s find something different” searches, and honestly? Best accidental discovery in Bologna. The address might look a bit intimidating at first – Galleria del Reno Scala C, Piano Ammezzato – but it’s actually this gorgeous little gallery space tucked away near the historic center. You know what struck me immediately? The ivy (which, well, “edera” means ivy in Italian, so they’re not being subtle about their brand). It’s everywhere, but in that effortlessly elegant way that makes you feel like you’re staying in some artist’s secret apartment rather than a hotel.
The rooms have this incredible lived-in sophistication – I mean, we’re talking exposed brick walls, vintage furniture that actually looks comfortable instead of just photogenic, and these amazing high ceilings that make you forget you’re on a mezzanine level. The whole place feels like someone’s stylish Italian grandmother decided to open her home to travelers, if that makes sense. What really got me was the attention to small details… there’s this old wooden staircase with worn spots that tell stories, and the lighting is warm enough that you actually want to read in your room instead of rushing out immediately. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too – and trust me, that’s not always a given in these historic Italian buildings.
Location-wise, you’re basically in the heart of everything without being right on top of the tourist chaos. Via del Reno is this lovely street that locals actually use, so you’ll hear real Italian conversations drifting up from the gallery below (never too loud, just… atmospheric). The Quadrilatero food market is maybe a five-minute walk – perfect for grabbing fresh mortadella and parmigiano for an impromptu picnic. And here’s something the booking sites won’t tell you: the staff actually knows Bologna. Like, really knows it. They pointed me toward this tiny osteria that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was interested in the city’s porticoes, they had specific recommendations about which ones to visit at different times of day for the best light.
The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be a flashy five-star experience, but everything they do, they do really well. Check-in was smooth, the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and there’s this communal area where you can grab coffee in the morning that feels more like hanging out in a friend’s living room than a hotel lobby. My only tiny complaint? The street can get a bit lively on weekend nights, but honestly, that’s just Bologna being Bologna. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels authentically Italian without sacrificing comfort – and you appreciate places with actual character instead of cookie-cutter luxury – this is your spot.

Reviews of Le Stanze dell’Edera
Exceptional – Nencho from Bulgaria – 17 July 2025 (10/10)
Everything was perfect. Perfect cleanliness, spacious room, quiet and peaceful place. Great coffee. Communication with the hosts is easy. They have thought of everything.
A great stay in the centre of Bologna – Loredana from Malta – 14 July 2025 (8/10)
Very modern, comfortable and good location. The common area was also great and with very good facilities. Loved the outdoor terrace! The property manager was also extremely welcoming and nice to deal with.
What could be improved: Little things for improvement – the fridge turns off when one is not in the room making it difficult to keep anything chilled. Also, lack of hangers in the bathroom and would be nice to add a clothes drying rack somewhere in the room/outside on the terrace. The hairdryer was also inconvenient to use.The best place – Ana from Romania – 1 July 2025 (9/10)
I loved the place super relaxed

Location
What could be improved: Initial checking in wasn’t straightforwardExceptional – Victor from Israel – 24 April 2025 (10/10)
Close to the railway station and in the center. Very quiet. Modern apartment design. There is a kitchen, coffee, tea. Everything is great!
A nice spot with good access to the old town. – Richard from United Kingdom – 16 April 2025 (8/10)
Property was modern and room and kitchen area were good. Very clean. Quite good location.
Nice touch to provide an outdoor space.
What could be improved: We couldn’t get on the internet and that was responded to promptly. However we found our bed to be incredibly noisy. So much so that turning over or getting out of bed woke the other person up. Imagine the creaking of a falling redwood tree. My first text on the subject was ignored , my second ‘thanks for notifying us!’
I expected it to be sorted. Not good customer service.Good and worthy – Hala from Israel – 27 March 2025 (8/10)
Very good, clean and comfortable
The kitchen full of bottles of water and beverages without any limitations – the location was perfect for us
Close to everything
What could be improved: No signs in the place for Wi-Fi
You can’t know the wi fi name and password .
When the helpful and nice cleaning guy tried to help I understood that the password have so many letters and numbers that it was very hard to connectAll in all it was a pleasant stay. I would definitely recommend this place. – Veta from Italy – 14 March 2025 (9/10)
Very clean
comfortable bed
Good bathroom
What could be improved: Very complicated procedure of check inClean room, responsive, friendly host. – Kathryn from Germany – 4 November 2024 (8/10)
Clean bedroom and common kitchen. Very responsive contact. Rashid kept in contact with us through WhatsApp. Even though we arrived much earlier than the usual 14:00 check in time, Rashid arrived shortly afterwards and helped us check in and feel comfortable.
What could be improved: The description on the Booking.com website could have been much more detailed. It could have indicated that WhatsApp would be the contact method and that the usual check in time was around 14:00.
The apartment would have been hard to find without Google maps.
