Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of Bologna hotels, and UR-NEST De’ Fusari actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. It’s tucked away on Via de’ Fusari in the Saragozza neighborhood – you know, that area just southwest of the historic center where you get the real Bologna vibe without the tourist circus. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very local; none of that over-the-top boutique hotel drama you see everywhere now.

What I loved most was how the staff seemed to actually know the city. When I asked about good spots for aperitivo, they didn’t just rattle off the obvious places near Piazza Maggiore – they sent me to this tiny enoteca about three blocks away where locals were arguing about football over Parmigiano and Lambrusco. The rooms are solid four-star quality without trying too hard to impress. Mine had these gorgeous original wooden beams (the building’s got some history, you can tell) and honestly, the bed was fantastic – sometimes you don’t realize how much a good night’s sleep matters until you’re walking cobblestones all day. The bathroom was modern but not sterile, with this rainfall shower that actually had decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve traveled in Italy, you know that’s not always guaranteed.

The location is what really sets this place apart, though. You’re maybe a fifteen-minute walk to the Two Towers, but here’s the thing – you’re also right in the middle of where people actually live and work. There’s a little market around the corner where I grabbed the best focaccia I had during my whole trip, and the morning sounds aren’t tour groups and rolling suitcases, but rather locals heading to work and kids walking to school. Parking can be tricky (it’s Bologna, after all), but the hotel can arrange a spot nearby if you’re driving. I walked most places or hopped on the bus – there’s a stop practically outside the door that’ll get you to the train station in no time. The breakfast spread was surprisingly good too, with actual local pastries instead of those sad continental buffet croissants. Service felt genuine rather than scripted, and when my flight got delayed, they let me store my bags without any fuss. It’s not the flashiest place you’ll ever stay, but it’s the kind of hotel that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Bologna rather than just visiting it.

  What could be improved: Mancavano gli asciugamani. Ho chiesto alla persona che ci ha accolti (Sofia), ma ha detto che avremmo dovuto attendere il giorno dopo perché il personale della ditta delle pulizie ormai non lavorava più (e non erano neppure le 19.00). Nonostante le nostre insistenze, non si è minimamente interessata di risolvere il problema.
  Inoltre, i bagni puzzavano terribilmente.
  Menzione d’onore, invece, per Fabio che è stato molto disponibile e ha cercato una soluzione per i nostri bagagli dopo il check out.

  What could be improved: We did not use the kitchen so I cannot comment on these facilities. Beds were not comfortable. Pillows were rock hard and extremely thick. One of the mattresses sloped from the middle to the edge on either side. The sofa bed in the living room was heavily stained, but the sofa bed mattress was actually comfortable to sleep on. Towels and quilts were rough and very old. Definitely need to be replaced. Bathroom showers were strong but the bathroom had a slight sewer odor. Not sure why.

  Appartamento bellissimo e pulito, le foto non rendono giustizia.
  Posizione perfetta non è necessario usare mezzi di alcun tipo per spostarsi.
  Letti e bagni comodi, ambiente cozy e rilassante. Avevamo due bambini molto piccoli, ci hanno fornito culla lenzuoline e asciugamani anche per loro!
  Ci riandremo sicuramente sw dovessimo passare di nuovo per Bologna.

  The location was wonderful. It was a nice touch to give us a complimentary bottle of wine for our stay. Fabio was great in explaining all the facilities and being available for us. The apartment was spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. The bathrooms both had bidets and showers.
  
  What could be improved: The apartment was clearly part of a large chain and was not managed with any personal concerns. The duvet and pillows smelled dirty and musty. The bed had a loose headboard and appeared unstable and noisy. The living room furniture was dirty, with the seat cushions on the couch coming apart. A dearth of hooks in the bathrooms was another annoyance that spelled neglect. The initial paperwork was daunting and I am still unsure what all we committed to.

  We loved the central location of the apartment. So much space, beautifully furnished, extremely convenient and quiet! Apart from the glorious bells from the clock tower – wonderful!
  The UR-Nest staff were fabulous- we arrived late on evening and left early on our last day – they were happy to meet us and made the entire experience very simple and enjoyable.
