You know what? I walked past Lamagia three times before I actually found it on Via Pietro Mengoli – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This isn’t one of those flashy hotels screaming for attention from the street. It’s tucked into this quiet residential area that feels authentically Bolognese, where you’ll hear actual conversations in Italian drifting from apartment windows rather than tourist chatter.

The location is actually brilliant once you get your bearings. I mean, you’re about a 15-minute walk from the university district, which puts you right in the heart of where locals actually hang out. There’s this little osteria around the corner that I stumbled into on my second night – the kind of place where the owner’s mother is still making tortellini by hand in the back. The hotel staff (who seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs, which is refreshing) pointed me toward it, along with a handful of other spots that weren’t in my guidebook. That 9.7 rating makes sense when you realize they’re not just checking boxes – they actually care about your experience.

What really got me was the attention to details you don’t expect. The rooms have this warm, lived-in elegance that doesn’t feel sterile or overly designed. My shower had proper water pressure (you Bologna veterans know this isn’t always a given in older buildings), and the bed was one of those where you actually sleep through the night instead of tossing around on some rock-hard mattress. The breakfast setup was refreshingly Italian – real espresso that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine, local pastries that change based on what’s good that morning, and staff who don’t hover but appear exactly when you need them.

The neighborhood gets quiet after dinner, which I loved – no drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM. Parking was easier than I expected for this part of the city, though I’d still recommend the train if you’re coming from other Italian cities. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprises with the bill, and they had solid recommendations for everything from late-night gelato to which markets are worth visiting. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Bologna rather than just passing through it.

  The host was really nice, she met us at the property (even with our flight being late and it being past 10pm). She even gave us a food recommendation for the first night, that was really good. The bed was super comfy and there was lots of room in the apartment. The double aircon system was helpful as it was 31 degrees. It was also good that we could open the windows.
  
  What could be improved: There was a shortage of plugs that fitted a uk to eu adapter, which left us charging our phones in the bathroom and hall, but wasn’t a major issue. The property is a 35 minute walk from the city centre, we knew this and were happy about it but some others may not want to walk that far, there is a local bus close by too.

  Our host was so wonderful, we exchanged messages a day before the trip so the apartment was easy to find and she welcomed us with cold water and snacks. The apartment is spaceous, sparkling clean and equipped with every appliance needed for a longer stay. The street is quiet at night, and there are three bus stops nearby for every direction needed.

  Awesome apartment, everything was clean and new. Fully equiped kitchen was also great. Both rooms had air conditioning. At night it was very quiet. Apartment is close to the city center and near a shop and a bus stop.

  It exceeded our expectations. Luxurious and spacious apartment. The apartment is even better than the pictures on booking. Sparkling clean, we can say it was the cleanest accommodation that we have been to and we travel a lot. It has everything you need for your stay. All of the furnishings are completely new and it is well organized. It is located in a quiet area close to the city center with lovely restaurants and coffee bars. We felt very welcomed, despite our early arrival, the host greeted us promptly. We were warmly welcomed with sweets and refreshing drinks, which felt especially thoughtful after our long journey. The host Ilarija was really nice and communicative. She was helpful with all the answers and tips that she gave us for the city. I hope that we will visit this place & Bologna again.
