La casa di Sacco – Appartamento Bologna Centro Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to La casa di Sacco on Via Fondazza – it’s one of those quiet residential streets that locals love precisely because tourists usually miss it. But stepping inside this apartment-style place, I mean, wow. The 9.7 rating suddenly made complete sense.
You know what struck me first? The light. These old Bologna buildings can be dark caves, but somehow this place captures that golden afternoon glow that makes the city’s terracotta rooftops look magical. The apartment feels like someone’s stylish Italian grandmother decided to become an interior designer – there’s this perfect balance of authentic character (think original ceiling beams and worn stone details) mixed with actually comfortable modern touches. The kitchen isn’t just for show either, which is rare in these historic center places. I actually used it to make proper coffee in the morning, and there’s something satisfying about shopping at the little alimentari down the street and cooking with ingredients that taste like, well, they’re supposed to.
Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where Bologna gets interesting. Via Fondazza puts you walking distance from San Stefano – those beautiful seven churches that most people rush through but deserve a proper afternoon. The university quarter is maybe ten minutes on foot, so you’ll hear students chatting and laughing in the evenings, but it’s not rowdy-loud, more like pleasant background life. And here’s the thing about staying in this neighborhood: you’re close enough to Piazza Maggiore to pop over for aperitivo, but far enough away that you won’t be dodging tour groups when you step outside. The nearest portico (and trust me, you’ll become obsessed with Bologna’s covered walkways) leads you straight toward the city center, which is particularly nice when it’s raining or stupidly hot in summer.
The check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that awkward key-passing or complicated instructions. Parking is… well, it’s Bologna’s historic center, so forget about driving here. But the train station is close enough for a reasonable taxi ride, and honestly, once you’re settled in this area, everything you want is walkable anyway. The apartment itself feels spacious by European city standards, and the bed is actually comfortable, not just “charming but your back will hate you.” Small details matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a night or two, and this place gets them right – good water pressure, reliable wifi, and windows that actually open properly for those warm evenings when you want to hear the neighborhood settling down for the night.

We had a great time in Bologna – and the warm welcome that Elisabetta gave us added to the experience! We could check in at an earlier time than indicated which was very accommodating and highly appreciated. We felt treated sweetly and had a lovely stay! Thanks!

The apartment is beautiful, spacious, and clean. We had everything we needed. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. They even left some pastries for us on our first day. The location is good for the old city.
What could be improved: I wish there were an elevator, but the stairs aren't too difficult.Exceptional – Haveric from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 22 October 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: NothingGreat apartment in central but quiet location, and fantastic hosts. – Stavroula from Greece – 22 June 2024 (10/10)
Great apartment in a central but very quiet location, very comfortable, cosy and fully equipped with all the amenities. We really felt as if we were staying in our second home. Elisabetta and Paolo were fantastic hosts, always accessible and welcoming, flexible and accommodating. I highly recommend it and would love to stay there again.
A very comfortable apartment in a good location. A very nice stay – David from United States – 11 June 2024 (9/10)
It was comfortable and well appointed. Good location. The host was friendly and accommodating.
What could be improved: All was good, only minor point was the position of light switches that would cause a three way light switch to turn on a light in the master bedroom when someone was in the bathroom
