You know what struck me first about La casa di Kro? It’s tucked away on Via Strazzacappe, which honestly sounds like a made-up street name until you’re actually walking down it in Bologna’s centro storico. The building itself has that weathered elegance you only find in places that have been standing since before America was even a thought – thick stone walls, shuttered windows, the kind of entrance that makes you feel like you’re stepping into someone’s well-kept secret rather than just another hotel. When I first pushed through those doors, the lobby felt intimate in a way that actually made sense for a 4-star place. Not trying too hard to impress, just… solid. Comfortable. The kind of space where you might linger over morning coffee instead of rushing out to tick off tourist boxes.

The location thing is huge here, and I mean that in the most practical way possible. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from Piazza Maggiore – I timed it because I’m neurotic like that – but more importantly, you’re close enough to the university area that you get this really authentic Bologna energy around you. Students grabbing aperitivo at Bar Senza Nome (which is literally around the corner), locals doing their evening shopping, that sort of organic city rhythm that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like you’re just… living there for a few days. The 9.3 rating honestly makes sense when you experience how the staff handles things – they know the neighborhood, they’ll point you toward the tortellini place that doesn’t have a sign, they remember your name after one night. Small stuff, but it adds up.

What really sealed it for me was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere, not just Instagram-ing it. The rooms have proper blackout curtains (thank god, because Bologna gets bright early), the air conditioning actually works during summer, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled with a marshmallow all night. I stayed in late September and could hear the city waking up in the morning – church bells, delivery trucks, the coffee machine firing up downstairs – but it never felt intrusive. More like a gentle reminder that you’re in a real place where real people live and work. The shower pressure was excellent, which might sound trivial until you’ve spent three days with a dribbly European hotel shower. Look, it’s not going to revolutionize your life or anything, but La casa di Kro does something increasingly rare these days: it just gets the fundamentals right while making you feel like you stumbled onto something special rather than booked something expensive.

  This apartment with three rooms and two bathrooms are equipped with almost every amenities you need, including a washing machine and a dryer. The renovated rooms are superb clean and beautifu. Parking is available in a garage on the ground floor.

  Where do I start, everything was a 10! Location was perfect, didn’t have to go far for a great meal, big Coop supermarket 5 mins away and close (but not too close) to the station. Apartment was huge and so comfortable and clean. Two bathrooms, one with full laundry facilities was great and modern and spotlessly clean. Bedrooms were large and well kitted out with storage and main bedroom had a small balcony. Heating was timed and never cold and plenty of hot water. The little courtyard was perfect and had outside table and chairs.
  Our host was outstanding, Elena made a restaurant reservation for us (my Italian is not good on the
  phone!) messages were answered immediately and she was very helpful and accommodating. We were also welcomed in person by a very charming and welcoming gentleman.
  There is no keysafe facility, so arrival time needs to be agreed with the host.
  I am not easy to please but this is my new go to accommodation in Bologna.

  What a spacious property! It was wonderful having two bathrooms and laundry facilities. Being in the city center was great as we were able to walk most places easily. And having a grocery across the street was handy, too.
